Recently, " World Bamboo and Rattan Newsletter " published the article "A new species of bamboo in Yunnan - Fangzhu from Wumeng Mountain", marking the official naming of the new bamboo species discovered in Zhaotong - Fangzhu from Wumeng Mountain release. In 2021, staff from the Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve Management Bureau in Yunnan discovered this extremely rare bamboo species during work. It is said that it produces bamboo shoots twice a year and has a natural distribution area of about 2 acres. It is locally called " Two Seasons Bamboo". After receiving the news, the leaders of the Yunnan Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve Management and Protection Bureau attached great importance to it and arranged special funds. Cao Anjiang and Yang Ke, senior engineers of the Management and Protection Bureau, carried out monitoring of the bamboo shoots of the "Two Seasons Bamboo" and It was identified as a new species and named "Wumeng Mountain Square Bamboo". Subsequently, this research result was published in the third issue of 2022 of the international comprehensive technical journal "World Bamboo and Rattan Newsletter". The release of this bamboo species is a new species identified and named by local experts in our city. The type specimen is stored in the herbarium of the Yunnan Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve Management Bureau. It ends the situation that although the new plant species was collected from Zhaotong, it was not from Local naming and type specimens are not included in the history of Zhaotong.
Yunnan Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve is located in the edge mountainous area within Daguan , Weixin , Yanjin , Yongshan 5 counties of Zhaotong City. The plateau is the ridge of the mountainous area around the basin raised by the plateau. There are relatively few human activities in this area. The discovery of the new bamboo species "Wumengshan Fangzhu" has, firstly, enriched the species resources of the protected area; secondly, the morphology of this new species is between Qiong bamboo and Fangzhu, and its shoot growth time is between After square bamboo shoots and before bamboo shoots, the study of the evolution of bamboo plants is of great significance. It can play a guiding role in the development of the bamboo industry through research and breeding of bamboo species during the shoot-out period; thirdly, bamboo species are in Under wild conditions, the low-temperature season after the bamboo shoots and before the bamboo shoots fills the gap of no fresh bamboo shoots during the low-temperature period, especially during the Spring Festival. It has important economic value for the development of the fresh bamboo shoots industry.
