How to face altitude sickness when traveling in Tibet? The doctor talked about his personal feelings, true

Tibet has always been the most mysterious piece of sacred land in the territory of the motherland, and it is also a destination that many "allies" are yearning for. However, in real life, the reason why many people dare not move towards Tibet, the hot land of the motherland, is because there may be obvious altitude sickness. Today, Doctor Zhang is here to tell everyone about the altitude sickness he just experienced, so that everyone can understand this matter more deeply.

The scenery in Tibet is picturesque

During the five days from September 9th to September 13th, 2021, I was fortunate to participate in the "Tibetan People's Health" free clinic organized by the Tibet Development Foundation , I came to Xigaze, Tibet with this Beijing expert group. We flew from Beijing to Xi'an, and then transferred from Xi'an to Xigaze . To be honest, there is no feeling on the plane, because no matter how high the plane flies, there are pressure and oxygen delivery equipment in the cabin. As the plane slowly landed, and the first time I got out of the cabin, I still didn't feel much, everything was fine. After receiving the Hada presented by the special representative of the Panchen Lama, we boarded the bus and started to head towards the city of Shigatse. On the bus to Shigatse, my altitude sickness began to gradually appear. For me, it was a mild chest tightness and headache. This feeling became more obvious when I got off the bus and entered the hotel, especially after dinner. After dinner, I went out for a walk for a while, and felt even more uncomfortable during the walk, so I went back to the hotel in time. Fortunately, the hotel will have oxygen supply from 8pm to 4am the next morning, like air-conditioning equipment, which really helps to reduce altitude sickness. I didn’t take a shower the first day I slept because I was afraid of catching a cold. At the same time, my sleep on the first day was greatly affected, and I almost didn't sleep all night. With complete sleepiness, I entered the schedule for the next day.

I took oxygen on the first day

It should be said that the second day was my most uncomfortable day. In addition to altitude sickness, there is actually another point that I didn’t have a good rest last night. This day’s free clinic,I saw the Panchen Lama in the morning, and in the afternoon I showed up at the place of the first free clinic, which is Tibet Xigaze Tibetkang Hospital. I saw dozens of patients and then returned to the station. On this day, I had severe altitude sickness. In order to relieve this headache reaction, besides paying attention to oxygen inhalation, I also took a slice of " ibuprofen sustained-release capsule". After taking it, my headache really got a certain amount. Degree of relief. In the evening of the second day, I was able to take a stroll in the Shigatse area after the meal. At the same time, I went back to the hotel and rested much better than the first day. I feel that it is more uncomfortable during the day, but my sleep at night is better. Because the work schedule on this day is full, I am gradually adapting mentally.

On the third day, Professor Huo Yong and I went to the free clinic in Aima Township, Nanmulin County, Xigaze, Tibet. There are a lot of free consultations on this day, and I need to talk a lot during the free consultations. Generally speaking, this will cause hypoxia. Fortunately, the local hospital has prepared support equipment for us. During the whole process, I can insist on completing the diagnosis and treatment of patients with quality and quantity. To be honest, my altitude sickness gradually eased on this day. I saw dozens of patients on this day and did not feel the discomfort of the next day. It’s okay to rest at night. I feel that I am gradually getting out of the discomfort caused by altitude sickness. After eating dinner that night, I walked for more than an hour to appreciate the great scenery of Tashilhunpo Square and the surrounding area. Go back to bed at night and prepare for the next day's free clinic. By the way, I still didn't take a bath on this day because I was afraid of catching a cold.

Doctor Zhang Zhiying and Director Huo Yong are in the free clinic

The fourth day of the schedule is to continue the free clinic in Aima Township, Nanmulin County, Xigaze, Tibet. The number of free consultations on this day was even greater, but fortunately, I have gradually tolerated the process of altitude sickness. On this day, I read a lot of laboratory tests and medical conditions of the Tibetan people, and basically gained a deeper understanding of the health of the Tibetan people. The local staff have been boasting about seeing the doctor carefully, being patient with patients, and saying that my physical fitness is better, and I have tolerated altitude sickness so quickly. Although the workload was heavy and tiring on this day, I was very happy in my heart. Also appreciate the great rivers and mountains of the motherland's frontier. By the way, the county where we went to the free clinic was the place where the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth Panchen Lama was reincarnated. In addition to his status as a living Buddha, the fourth Panchen Lama is actually a very accomplished doctor. . I still didn't take a bath this day, I am going back to Beijing to take a bath again.

The fifth day, we will return to Beijing on this day. I got up that morning and I had no altitude sickness at all, and it felt like living and working in Beijing. We were on a plane in the afternoon and arrived in Beijing at 10:50 in the evening. After returning to Beijing, I always feel a little dizzy. I don't know if this is the legendary " drunk oxygen " or my own psychological effect. In fact, the city of Shigatse in Tibet that I visited this time is considered to be a relatively high altitude area. If you go to travel, you can swim from a low-elevation city first, and then slowly go to a high-altitude area. For example, go to Linzhi first, then to Lhasa, and then to Shigatse. This may be better and the altitude sickness will be lower. However, I still remind everyone that if your altitude sickness is obvious, try to focus on your health and don't have to challenge yourself.

returned to Beijing

In short, I personally think this trip to Tibet is very worthwhile. I have seen many problems that cannot be seen in Beijing, and I have also felt many health problems that Tibetan people have in reality. . For example, people in Tibet generally have high blood pressure, and many people are particularly high, and blood lipids, especially low-density lipoproteins, are generally low, even close to the blood lipids of primitive tribes mentioned in " Amazon primitive tribe blood lipid research" level. What are the mysteries in this? I want to keep asking questions.

Tibetans are generally low in blood lipids

I think there are three things I can do later:

1. Report to top experts such as Professor Huo Yong on what I have seen in Tibet. smell,I hope that one day China will have a cardiovascular guideline adapted to the Tibetan people.

2. If I have the opportunity to meet Tibetan doctors who come to Beijing to study in the future, I will try my best to provide them with more help.

3. If there is a chance, I will go to serve the Tibetan people.

Doctor Zhang Zhiying donated 19,800 yuan high-end sphygmomanometer to the people of Tibet

Okay, let’s just talk about it. This is how I feel about my trip to Tibet. I hope I can help more. People entering Tibet. I hope that everyone can give more support to Tibet and that the lives of the Tibetan people will get better and better.
