Xiao Chaowei is a PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK. He is a researcher at the National Development and Strategy Institute of Renmin University of China, deputy director of the Center for Urban Renewal Research, and a graduate supervisor of the School of Public Management of , and an editor of the International Liaison Station of the Journal of International Urban Planning. His main research areas are big data and urban governance, metaverse and digital twin cities, urban renewal , urban and rural and regional development, and the construction of the infrastructure of the "Belt and Road". He has published more than ten papers in journals such as "International Urban Planning" and "Geographic Research". He has presided over several scientific research projects such as the Beijing Social Science Foundation and the Renmin University of China Research Fund. He has also worked in the United Nations Development Program, the National Development Bank, and the United Kingdom Aruptner Engineering Consulting Company.
