Hengshui City is one of the prefecture-level cities under Hebei Province and an important city in Hebei Province. Hengshui Lake in Hengshui City is very famous. At present, Hengshui City has 11 districts and counties under its jurisdiction. So, how is the zoning pattern of Hengshui City formed step by step?
First of all, let’s talk about the basic situation in Hebei Province. Hebei Province is a province in the North my country region of , and is also one of the provinces in my country's economic, population and food. According to the data from Qipu in 2020, the total population of Hebei Province reached more than 74 million, ranking 6th among all provinces and cities in the country, second only to five provinces including Guangdong, Shandong, Henan, Sichuan and Jiangsu. In 2021, the total amount of GDP in Hebei Province exceeded 4 trillion, which is at a very good level.
The terrain in northern Hebei Province is complex, mainly composed of mountains and hills. In ancient history, it is part of the Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun. It is a standard place that must be fought for by military strategists and has always been a natural barrier for the Central Plains dynasty to resist the northern nomadic cavalry. For example, Zhangjiakou , Chengde and other places are easy to defend and difficult to attack. The central and southern regions are mainly plains, and the vast North China Plain is basically within Hebei Province. Hebei Province has high grain production and many varieties, and is an important grain supply base in my country.

Hebei is generally martial, and in ancient history, it is the main area for the Central Plains dynasty to recruit soldiers. Therefore, the saying " Yanzhao is known as the most emotional and tragic singers" appeared. At present, Hebei Province has a total of 11 prefecture-level cities under its jurisdiction, including Shijiazhuang City, Baoding City , Cangzhou City, Handan City, Hengshui City, etc. Among them, the provincial capital is Shijiazhuang City. In addition, Shijiazhuang City is also the city with the largest population under Hebei Province.
Hengshui City is one of the 11 prefecture-level cities under Hebei Province and an important city in Hebei Province. Its geographical location is very important and it is a "crossroads." In 2021, the total population of Hengshui City reached more than 4.5 million. In 2021, Hengshui City's total GDP reached more than 170 billion. At present, Hengshui City has two districts, one county-level city, and eight counties under its jurisdiction, with a total of 11 districts and counties, namely: Taocheng District , Jizhou District , Shenzhou City , Zaoqiang County , Wuyi County , Wuqiang County , Raoyang County , Anping County , Gucheng County , Jing County, Fucheng County .
As for Hengshui City's district adjustment process, it has gone through several stages. As we all know, our provincial system appeared in Yuan Dynasty . After hundreds of years of adjustment and merger of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the basic framework pattern of inland provinces was gradually formed. As of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, the zoning pattern of Zhili Province has basically stabilized, with a total of 12 prefectures and 6 Zhili Prefectures.

Since the district at the prefecture level was abolished, the province directly managed each county.
In a blink of an eye, it was the early stage of the founding of the People's Republic of China. With the basic end of the large-scale war, my country entered the stage of post-war reconstruction, restoration of production, development and construction.A series of special zones and prefecture-level cities have been formed in various parts of Hebei Province. After the establishment of the Hengshui area, there were initially 13 counties under its jurisdiction, namely: Hengshui County, Ji County, Zaoqiang County, Wuyi County, Shen County, Wuqiang County, Qinghe County, En County, Xiajin County, , Wucheng County, Gucheng County, Jing County, and Fucheng County. However, Hengshui District has not existed for a long time.
1952, in the new round of zoning changes, the Hengshui special zone was abolished, and the counties under their jurisdiction were included in the management of several surrounding special zones. Of course, in the 1950s, Hebei Province's zoning continued to be adjusted, and the counties originally under the Hengshui District also adjusted their own locations. In the 1950s and 1960s, my country's transportation and communication levels were limited and the management area was too large, which was not conducive to management and construction. In 1962, Hebei Province re-established the Hengshui Special Zone.
However, the Hengshui special area at this time was adjusted to 11 counties, namely: Hengshui County, Ji County, Zaoqiang County, Wuyi County, Shen County, Wuqiang County, Raoyang County, Anping County, Gucheng County, Jing County, and Fucheng County. In the late 1960s, after all the special zones across the country were renamed to regions, Hengshui Special Zone was renamed to Hengshui Region, and its jurisdiction remained unchanged. In the late 1970s, my country's economy entered a period of rapid development, in order to adapt to the needs of economic development. Various regions under the jurisdiction of various provinces in my country have successively made adjustments in various aspects. This is also the case in Hebei Province. In 1982, Hengshui County in Hengshui Prefecture was abolished and Hengshui County-level city was established. In the 1980s and 1990s, the economy continued to develop in various counties in Hengshui area. Ji County was abolished and a county-level city of Jizhou was established, while Shenzhou County was abolished and a county-level city of Shenzhou was established. At this time, Hengshui area had 3 county-level cities and 8 counties under its jurisdiction.
In 1996, Hengshui area was abolished and Hengshui prefecture-level city was established. At the same time, Hengshui county-level city was abolished and Taocheng District was established. As of this time, Hengshui City has formed a district layout of 1 district, 2 county-level cities and 8 counties. After entering the 21st century, with the rapid development of Hengshui City, the population of urban areas has further increased and the urban area has further expanded. In order to adapt to development needs, in 2016, Jizhou county-level cities were abolished and Jizhou District was established.
As of this time, the zoning pattern of 2 districts, 1 county-level city and 8 counties in Hengshui City has basically been formed. Of course, for practical construction reasons, after entering the 21st century, Hengshui City has successively established several new areas such as Binhu New District, , Economic and Technological Development Zone, and High-tech Zone. However, the situation in these new areas is special and belongs to functional areas and is generally not included.
