// Repertory introduction //

This is an urban fable. The story takes place during the Spring Festival. Niu Niu and her parents stayed in the city where they worked for the first year for the New Year. Niu Niu, who did not return to her hometown for the New Year as usual, met an old man who often wandered in this city on the quiet street during the Spring Festival for the first time. She was covered with colorful plastic bags, which made her image even more "dazzling". Niu Niu has a strong interest in the behavior of collecting plastic bags by the old man who picks up scattered, and he hopes to know the secrets in these plastic bags. But what bothers her is that the existence of the old man who picks up scattered seems to be actively blocked and ignored by the people around her. "This problem that is not a problem" has brought new inspiration to Niu Niu herself and her family.

This is not a problem, until it becomes a problem

This story takes place in a modern city that we are all very familiar with. It is full of cold and hurry people. Only during the Spring Festival, this slightly empty city leaves little girl Niu Niu some space to discover the machinery and neglected by various sounds and noises.

City and hometown exist in very different forms. In the city, the tacit sense of distance between people, standard regulations, clear boundaries, and a work model of one carrot and one pit are organized by everyone living here. Returning home during the Spring Festival challenges all this. People can get infinitely close to each other's private life. All the rules are ambiguous and there is plenty of time to chat.

It breaks the new identity that people have finally established in the city, and has to face the "trauma" of childhood and have to deal with their primitive emotions. All the initial anxiety, pain, stress, loneliness, and frustration all came without any room for anything. All of this is very similar to the image of this trash-picking grandma. She came to her face. A beggar, a garbage picker should have existed silently, or was waiting quietly for death, but she was so bright that it attracted everyone's attention. But hiding and ignoring has become a common trick for adults, and they are used to avoiding everything that makes them embarrassed, contradictory, and painful. Because these feelings are useless. Just like the old lady who picked up scraps said in Niu Niu's dream: "Because you see it, this is a cruel problem. Most people don't see it, so it is not a problem for them."

For adults, children should do what you should do, forbid you shouldn't do, and avoid what you don't know how to do. So when the little girl was almost knocked down by a car, her mother only cared about her almost died; when the cold war in the family was not over, her father could only say that she would go out to eat a plate of dumplings; when she saw Niu Niu strolling at the school gate, Teacher Wu would only ask you why you didn’t go home, it was a violation of the regulations here. Not surprisingly, when the wolf-picking grandmother wanted to stay in the hospital for a while, the security guard immediately ruthlessly moved out the regulations: the hospital resources cannot be occupied here. Only by doing this can you avoid all "problems" and deal with life efficiently. All problems become no problem in an instant, but there are endless troubles.

Only Niu Niu can exist completely in every moment of her life, carefully pondering her inner emotions and feelings, and seeing those problems that are not a problem. But such reactions will always be cut off by an adult inadvertently, she is confined, “pulled” from trouble, asked to be quiet, etc. All feelings are in an unfinished state because they are not allowed to go through a process of identification, understanding and coping. Therefore, the emergence of dreams and imagination is very timely. Niu Niu is repairing these broken feelings and responding to her inner needs in a surreal way.

Until her feelings become stronger and stronger, until her feelings and responses are like the image of a grandmother, which makes people unable to escape, until she questions her father and tells her plans in full, her parents feel that they must respond to her inner curiosity, or deal with their inner avoidance of the surroundings.

There is no fierce conflict in the whole play, just like every moment in daily life. Through the perspective of the little girl Niu Niu, those moments that are not a problem are magnified; through the image of the old man who picks up scavengers, those hidden problems are focused. When the extremes in daily life are opened, whether it is a question will be decided by the audience.
