This small spout in front of me How could suddenly integrate all the forms of water, including seas, rivers, waterfalls, springs, and fog, and accommodate various human emotions such as joy, anger, sadness, resentment, and melancholy? Could it be that the creator wanted to condense it in the spout of the pot? A world?"
This is a fragment of the article "Hukou Waterfall" by the famous Chinese essayist Liang Heng, which describes the strangeness and magnificence of the Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River.
The Yellow River runs from west to east, passing through the three major ladders of China. When flowing through the first and second steps, due to the high altitude and rapid water flow, many canyons are formed. Hukou Waterfall is located in Shanxi-Shaanxi Canyon . In the Hukou area, the west bank of the Yellow River is steep at the bottom and gentle at the top. The bottom of the canyon is about 400 meters wide. From the bottom of the valley to Longwang Slope, the slope is about 150 meters high. The cliff bank is very steep. Above Longwang Slope, the valley shape widens and the valley slope is gentle; Below, the water flows to the mouth of the pot and forms a deep groove in the flat valley bottom, about 30 meters. Above the mouth of the pot, water flows in the wide trough, and when it reaches the upper end of the deep trough , , the 400-meter-wide water surface pours into the 30-50-meter-wide deep trough at once, forming a waterfall. The river bed here is shaped like a huge teapot, collecting the endless water of the Yellow River, hence the name of the teapot.
Hukou Waterfall and Shili Longcao are both products of the erosion of the Yellow River. Under the erosion of the water flow, Hukou Waterfall continues to retreat upstream at a rate of 3 to 4 centimeters per year. The location of Hukou Waterfall recorded in the "Yuanhe Prefecture and County Chronicles" during the Tang Xianzong period is different from that recorded in the "Shui Jing Zhu" during the Northern Wei Dynasty Emperor Xiaoming's period, and today's "Hukou" has moved up 5,000 About meters.
There is a saying by boatmen on the Yellow River: "There is Tianqiaozi above, and Qiliuzi below." "Qiliuzi" refers to the Hukou Waterfall, and "Tianqiaozi" refers to the wonders of the Yellow River water surface in the Hukou Waterfall area. One of the "Ice Bridges". There is a flyover gorge between Fugu in northern Shaanxi and Baode County in northern Shanxi. It is 20 kilometers long. The river is narrow and the water is turbulent. During the dry season, the river is only more than 30 meters wide, and in winter, ice accumulates to form a bridge. And because the river water will roll under the ice bridge and make a thunderous sound, it is called the "overpass". In nine cold days, the ice can rise above both sides of the bank. Not only is the scene spectacular, but it is also convenient for traffic. In history, the ice bridge played an important role in promoting economic, cultural and interpersonal exchanges between the Qin and Jin Dynasties.
