New China implemented the rank of military awards in 1955. Thirty-three generals at the corps level were awarded the rank of general, and two special ones were awarded the rank of general, namely Xu Guangda and Wang Shusheng. Some people may ask, there are only 35 people, and the other one is Lieutenant General Xu Liqing.
According to the rank awarding standards at the time, the most inappropriate official positions at the Corps level should be the general, but why did Xu Liqing demote the title? In fact, Xu Liqing petitioned three times in order to demote the title, and was only approved by the great man.
Xu Liqing is a mall native. He was born in a poor family in 1910. In order to survive, he had herded cattle for the landlords since he was a child. When he was 17 years old, the spark of revolution spread to his hometown. Xu Liqing, influenced by the new revolutionary ideas, resolutely joined the revolution. In 1929, he became an Red Army soldier.
Because Xu Liqing has excellent achievements in the military's political work, he has been working diligently for many years. He served as the political commissar of the Ministry of Health of the Red Fourth Front Army during the Long March . During the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the Organization Minister of the 129th Division. And on March 25, 1947, before the Qinghuabian ambush started, Xu Liqing personally went to the front line to boost the morale of the soldiers. The soldiers shared the same hatred of the enemy. In just over an hour, they won the battle and annihilated more than 2,900 enemies. After the war, he went to the prisoner-of-war camp for publicity and education, encouraging the prisoners to join the People's Liberation Army, and more than 800 prisoners became PLA soldiers on the spot.
1947, after the Panlong Battle started, it was not taken down several times in a row. Seeing this, Xu Liqing proposed that the attack should be suspended and the existing position should be consolidated. It was adopted by General Peng and stopped fighting. After resting the troops, new tactics were improved and attacked again on May 3. At three o'clock in the afternoon, the People's Liberation Army attacked it. Xu Liqing shouted "Run towards Panlong Town and capture Li Kungang alive", which greatly boosted the morale of the army, thus killing 6,700 people, seizing one million bullets and ten thousand bags of flour.
On August 18, 1947, Xu Liqing led the New Fourth Army to fight with the 123rd Brigade of the enemy in the Shajiadian area. This was one of his few independent command operations. He also captured the command post of the 36th Division of the National Army in one fell swoop, and on August 20, he wiped out the troops. In 1952, Xu Liqing was rated as a general of the corps for his outstanding military achievements.
1955 When the title was awarded, Xu Liqing had successively submitted requests for the title of Jiang to General Peng, Shuai Luo and Premier Zhou, but they all advised Xu Liqing to consider it again. After the great man found out about this, he praised him for his noble character and finally approved his request for the title of demotion.
