Xu Linong is a retired second-level general of the Taiwan Army. He served as the principal of the Taiwan Army Officer School (i.e. Whampoa Military Academy resumed in Kaohsiung), the "Director of the General Political and Warfare Department" of the Taiwan Army, "Chairman of the Retired Auxiliary Committee", and "National In the 1990s, he participated in the founding of the new party and served as the convener of the new party's "National Congress" caucus. Later, he also founded the New Alliance and served as its president. Known as "Dad Xu", he is regarded as the "spiritual leader" by the island's reunification faction.
103-year-old Xu Linong came to the venue. Although he was in a wheelchair, he was in high spirits. He said that when the July 7th Incident broke out in 1937, the 18-year-old Xu gave up his writing and joined the army. He later participated in many battles. The reason why I chose to hold the book launch today is to highlight my father’s lifelong hope to avoid war and strive for peace.
Ma Ying-jeou said in his speech that today is the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident. "The Biography of Xu Linong - From War to Peace" is a timely reminder to the DPP ruling authorities that war cannot resolve disputes, there are no winners in war, and there are no losers in peace. He said that in the more than six years since Tsai Ing-wen has been in power, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has gone from cross-strait peace six years ago to being described by Western public opinion as "the most dangerous place in the world" today, which is worrying. Both sides of the Taiwan Strait must not only avoid war, but also seek peace. This is what the DPP authorities need to think about most at the moment, and it is also the message that Mr. Xu has been spreading for decades. In addition, Ma Ying-jeou also borrowed words from Xu Linong's new book to say that "Taiwan independence" is a dead-end road.

Author Ji Xin said that the reason why she persisted in asking an extremely low-key elderly man to tell his life history was because Mr. Xu loudly spoke out and took practical actions to oppose "Taiwan independence" at the beginning of Taiwan's path to separatism, and promoted the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the peaceful reunification of the two sides. It has been more than 30 years. "I believe that his mental journey and the great efforts he made to implement his ideas in extremely difficult circumstances should and must be entered into history."
General Xu Linong spoke as the biographer, telling all parties Three points of gratitude were expressed. Finally, the publishing house also prepared flowers and a big cake to present to "Dad Xu".
