Finally, when the People's Liberation Army gained overwhelming momentum and occupied Chiang Kai-shek's hometown , the Nanjing Presidential Palace , Chiang Kai-shek, in disgrace, took the defeated remnants of his Kuomintang troops and fled to the treasure island of Taiwan, retreating to a corner in the southeast.

Although the doctor tried to stop him in every possible way, he could not persuade him, so he had no choice but to allow him to be discharged from the hospital, but he was required to make every effort to recuperate and never rush to work.

However, after a period of convalescence, General Chen Geng recovered very well. However, he thought he could start working, so he pestered the doctor every day to ask for permission to work. With no other choice, the doctor could only report to the superior organization, and after receiving a reply, the doctor agreed that he could work a little bit of time every day, but he must not be tired.

Although Chen Geng ostensibly agreed to the doctor's instructions, once he started working, the doctor's words were completely forgotten, which was extremely detrimental to his recovery. But since New China had just been established at that time, and everything was waiting to be revitalized, General Chen Geng just wanted to devote all his energy to the motherland and the people as soon as possible.

In the spring of 1960, Chen Geng had a rare moment of leisure. So, he was invited to attend a class reunion. This is a senior leader organizing a banquet for teachers and students of Whampoa Military Academy. At this gathering, there were former senior KMT generals Song Xilian, Du Yuming, Wang Yaowu, Yang Botao and Zheng Tingji, who were all Chen Geng's best classmates in Huangpu.
