The "Rim of the Pacific-2022" exercise led by the US military was held in the Hawaiian Islands and California southern and surrounding waters. A total of 42 ships, 170 fighter aircraft from 26 countries, and a total of 29,000 people participated in this military exercise. The number of participating countries, the scale of dispatched ships, and the deployment of troops have all set new records in history.
The "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise" was born in 1971. The first exercise only included the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other five countries. Since 1974, it has been held every two years. In the early 1980s, Japan, South Korea, , Chile, and successively joined, and New Zealand withdrew in the mid-1980s. For quite some time, the number of participating countries has remained at around 10. In recent years, the number of participating countries has grown to more than 20, and in 2022 there will be 26 participating countries. The territory of these 26 countries is about 40.74 million square kilometers, accounting for 31% of the total territory of the 197 countries in the world. The total population is about 3 billion, accounting for 38% of the world's total population. Judging from the map, the "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise" really lives up to its name. The participating countries basically circle the Pacific Ocean, leaving only two gaps, one is Taiwan and the other is Central America .
(1) Five Eyes Alliance
The "Five Eyes Alliance" countries were the first five countries to participate in the "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise" and have participated for a long time. New Zealand suspended its participation in 1985 due to the nuclear ban issue, and resumed participation in 2012 to this day. . The United States, Canada and Australia are the three countries that participate every time. The countries of the "Five Eyes Alliance" have deep historical roots and share the same culture and race. Both are English-speaking countries and share the same language, which has a natural advantage in realizing intelligence sharing.
(2) NATO Important powers
Among the 26 participating countries, 7 are NATO member states. In addition to the United States, there are Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark . These seven countries are all founding members of NATO and are also the countries with the strongest military strength in NATO. However, five countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark are not Pacific Rim countries.
(3) Israel
Israel participated in the "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise" for the first time in 2018. Israel is a core ally of the United States in the Middle East, but it is not a Pacific Rim country. Although Israel is a "small country" in the Middle East with a population of less than 10 million, it is the only developed country in the Middle East. It is also a world-renowned "powerhouse" in the defense industry, ranking among the top ten in the world in military technology. Israel implements an all-military service system, with the highest ratio of female soldiers in the world. Young people regard joining the army as a rite of passage into society.
(4) India
India is not a Pacific Rim country and participated for the first time in 2018. As the overlord of and in the South Asian subcontinent, India has become the target of various forces competing to win over, and India is also enjoying it, like a duck in water. India is one of the four members of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue and is seen as a potential counterweight to China's influence.
(5) South Korea and Japan
South Korea and Japan are firm allies of the United States in Asia and have important influence in Asia. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force participated in the exercise for the first time in 1980. Since then, Japan has participated every time and has become a regular member of the "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise". In this military exercise, Japan dispatched the "Izumo". The "Izumo" has completed the first step of aircraft carrier modification and has the ability to take off and land F-35B. It can be regarded as a true aircraft carrier. . South Korea dispatched ships and military aircraft led by the amphibious assault ship "Marado Island" and thousands of soldiers to participate in the exercise. This is the largest number of troops South Korea has sent to participate in the exercise since it first participated in the "Rim of the Pacific" exercise in 1990.
(six) ASEAN countries
Six of the ten ASEAN countries participated in this "Rim-Pacific Military Exercise". These six countries are also founding members of the " Indo-Pacific Economic Framework ", and five of them are South The countries in the China Sea are Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. The United States intends to divest China's supply chain through IPEF and transfer products currently in the U.S. industrial chain to ASEAN or other Asia-Pacific countries as soon as possible.
(7) Tonga
The South Pacific island nation of Tonga participated in the show for the first time. Tonga is the country with the smallest population and the second smallest area among the participating countries, and its symbolic significance is greater than its practical significance.
