Even after entering the 21st century, our country has adopted the "small steps and fast running" strategy to exploratoryly build several types of modern destroyers and frigates, but they are only a handful, and each type of warship produced at that stage has not yet reached scale. Following the 054A frigate, the Chinese Navy has spawned the second new destroyer built in large quantities: 052D "Chinese Aegis". Compared with the 052C destroyer, this class of ship not only has a significant increase in displacement and the number of vertical missile launchers, but also has better performance in terms of weaponry, radar electronic equipment. The Chinese Navy is also quite satisfied with the comprehensive combat power of the 052D. It purchased 25 ships in two batches, including 13 basic ships and 12 improved ships. On March 21, 2014, Kunming, the first ship of the Type 052D "China Aegis" destroyer with hull number 172, officially joined the Chinese Navy's South China Sea Fleet, marking the beginning of this type of destroyer's official batch equipment for the Navy's front line force.
