After the priority order of the technical visa has changed, the technical visa application of teachers and medical workers can now be evaluated within three days.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stopped using the "Prioritative Immigration Technical Occupation List (PMSOL)" to rank technical visa applications because the list is considered outdated and can no longer reflect the serious labor shortages across Australia.

According to this new minister's instructions, the technical visa application will now be determined in the following order of priority:

1, visa application for health care or education occupations;

2, employer guaranteed visa, applicant nominated by an approved guarantor;

3, visa application for designated remote areas;

4, permanent and temporary visa subcategory, visa application for immigration programs, excluding subcategory 188 (Business Innovation and Investment (temporary)) visa.

5, all other visa applications.

For all categories mentioned above, passport holders that meet the criteria will be given priority, as not all visa categories are open to people of every nationality.

new standard applies to the following technical visa categories:

124 (outstanding talents)

186 (employer nomination plan)

187 (remote area guarantee immigration plan)

188 (commercial) Innovation and Investment (temporary))

189 (independent skilled immigration)

190 (state guaranteed skilled immigration)

191 (permanent residence (remote technical immigration))

457 (temporary work (technical) visa)

Category 482 (temporary skills shortage visa)

489 (sexual skilled immigration in remote areas (temporary))

491 (new technical visa in remote areas (temporary))

494 (remote employer guarantee (temporary))

858 (global talent visa)

887 (Skilled Immigration in Remote Areas (Permanent Residence))

This list was launched in September 2020 and has previously identified 44 occupations in the broader list of skilled immigration occupations (SMOL) for rapid approval during the recovery of the epidemic. But starting from October 28 this year, the list has been discontinued.

This list includes professions such as engineers, chefs, accountants, psychiatrists, programmers, and pharmacists, as well as medical workers such as nurses and doctors, but not teachers.

Interior Ministry said that with the issuance of a new Ministerial Direction No. 100, staff will now prioritize visas in the fields of health and education.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs told SBS News: "These applications are now evaluated within three days."

reported that the change applies to all undecided technical visa nominations and visa applications, as well as newly submitted applications, including temporary visas, employer-guaranteed visas and remote area visas. The full list of visa categories for which the change applies is shown below.

It also removes priority from global talent, business innovation and investment projects.

The occupations that are now prioritized include school teachers, health and welfare support workers, child care center managers, medical scientists, counselors, psychologists, social service workers and medical technicians.
