//Preface//

Recently, the Australian Immigration Bureau issued a new policy to applicants waiting for 485 to sign in Australia. Many of the students have received news that they do not need a physical examination. The news is confirmed to be true, and the Immigration Bureau has also saved everyone a wave of physical examination fees, so everyone no longer needs to face the situation of not having to make an appointment for a physical examination in the near future. Today, the editor will take the students to learn about the 485 visa:

01

What is the 485 visa?

485 visa is a short-term work visa, mainly provided to graduates who have completed two years of education in Australia but have not yet met the immigration score requirements. After holding a 485 visa, students can freely go to and from Australia and find a job, study, travel, or complete a professional year in Australia, which is very convenient, and also gives graduates who want to immigrate to Australia enough time to prepare and meet immigration scores.

485 visas are mainly divided into two categories:

1) PSW visa (Post-Study Work Stream Bachelor's and Master's Doctoral Graduate Job Category):

Visa validity period is related to the applicant's academic qualifications: the PSW length of undergraduate students is 2 years, the PSW length of research and teaching master's degree is 3 years, and the PhD is 4 years. After Hong Kong and UK passport holders complete undergraduate and master's degree studies, the PSW length is 5 years. The current average trial time is about 5-11 months.

2) GW visa (Graduate Work Stream graduate job category):

visa duration is 18 months. For those who obtain this visa after December 1, 2021, the visa duration will be temporarily added to 2 years, which is suitable for students who cannot apply for a PSW visa.

applicants can complete relevant career assessments through the MLTSSL occupation list, and their academic qualification requirements can be relaxed to college courses, such as chef courses; and the first student visa is submitted and approved before November 5, 2011. The current average trial time is about 5-11 months.

PS: According to the latest policy, GW application will be submitted before July 1, 2023, and VET vocational courses will be extended to 2 years of work visa. However, this policy is a temporary policy and it is still impossible to predict if the changes are made in the later period.

The question is here~ How to define the length of time required to study in Australia for 2 years in the 485 visa?

Category 1: Students have transferred their studies while studying in Australia. How do they calculate their 2 years of study time?

depends on the registration time of the last course. If it is a two-year system, there will be no problem. For example: Some students graduated after transferring because the course offsets, because they only studied for one year, but the course registration time is only two years, and after graduation, they still have completed two years of study time.

Category 2: If you have 2+2 or 3+1 learning experience, how do you calculate the 2-year study time?

years of study time can be pieced together, for example: the student came to Australia from the 3+1 program, studied for a bachelor's degree in Australia for 1 year, and then applied for a master's degree for 1 year. After graduating from a master's degree, you can also apply for a 485 work visa. Pay attention! Students must have completed the course before applying for 485. If the student has not finished the course or gives up on the way, but has been studying for more than 2 years, they cannot apply for 485!
