How many people don’t know that immigration to Irish is equivalent to immigration to the UK. In May 2019, the UK and Ireland governments signed a memorandum of cooperation reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the CTA and its associated rights and privileges under any circumstances, which will remain unchanged after Brexit.
According to the EU Treaty, citizens of each member state are citizens of the EU and can live, work and study in any country in the EU and have unlimited freedom of movement. After Brexit , citizens of other EU member states must apply for a visa or permanent residence status to enter and leave the UK, while the CTA allows Irish citizens to enter and leave the UK to live, study and work freely. In other words, Irish nationality = free living in the UK + free living in 27 EU countries.
