On November 12, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at the International Forum on "Hybrid Rice Aid for Foreign Aid and World Food Security" that food is the foundation of human survival. Affected by the new crown epidemic, extreme climate and geopolitical conflicts, global food security is currently facing new challenges. China has made food security one of the key areas to implement the global development initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. At this year's G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, China formally proposed the eight-point initiative for international food security cooperation.
Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese government continues to provide emergency food aid to countries in need, which has benefited more than 40 countries and tens of millions of affected people in the past five years. This year, China has provided more than 35,000 tons of food aid to 18 countries. China has become the developing country with the most aid funds, the most projects and the most experts under the framework of the FAO. China is willing to work with all countries and international organizations to make new and greater contributions to safeguarding world food security and achieving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with the international community to work together from multiple links such as supply, transportation, trade, and storage to effectively safeguard global food security. China will take the lead in doing six aspects: First, give full play to the role of the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and the China-Faculty-Agriculture Organization's Third South-South Cooperation Trust Fund. The second is to sign an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to carry out cooperation in the fields of digital and innovative agricultural finance, animal and plant disease prevention and control, sustainable soil and water resources management. Third, share practical agricultural technology with countries in need, provide technical and experience support in the fields of grain production, processing, warehousing, loss reduction, logistics, trade, etc., and carry out agricultural scientific and technological innovation cooperation. Fourth, provide more training quotas in the agricultural field for developing countries. Fifth, continue to provide emergency food aid to countries in need. Sixth, encourage more Chinese companies to invest in African agricultural production and processing.
