First of all, I would like to express my warmest congratulations to Secretary Xu's publication of the "Collected Works" and express my highest respect to Secretary Xu.
I can’t say how excited I am when I read Secretary Xu’s “Collected Works”! The first article included in the first volume of Secretary Xu's "Collected Works" is the article "The Manifesto for Adhering to and Developing Marxism" published in " People's Daily " in June this year. The profound thoughts, meticulous arguments, and sonorous writing skills show Secretary Xu's spiritual character of "thinkers are always young", and quickly brought my thoughts back 24 years ago. In 1994, Secretary Xu, then editor-in-chief of Guangming Daily, published an article titled "Correctly understand and handle the theoretical and practical significance of the relationship between reform, development and stability" in " Guangming Daily ". At that time, I was a reporter in the Domestic Political Department of Guangming Daily. From this article, I truly realized the profound meaning of Secretary Xu's advocacy of young editors and editors of the newspaper to "become a scholar-type editor and reporter". This article not only aroused enthusiastic response from the ideological and theoretical circles at that time, but still has the importance of inspiring thinking and inspiring progress after reading it today.
Secretary Xu always attaches importance to the cultivation of young comrades, and has always built a broad platform for young comrades to do things and start businesses, helping young comrades become talents in hard work and important positions. I was not yet in my thirties and was very fortunate to work under the leadership of Secretary Xu for five or six years. At the critical stage of my life growth, it is my great luck to receive encouragement, teaching, guidance and help from Secretary Xu!
Today, I studied the "Collected Works" as soon as possible, as if I were in the days and nights of Secretary Xu's efforts for decades, I could truly feel the hard work and wisdom that Secretary Xu devoted to it, and could deeply understand how a contemporary Chinese Communist Party member adhered to his beliefs, how to be persistent and loyal, how to be confident and optimistic, how to take responsibility and do what he said and did what he said.
At an important moment when the whole party and the whole country study Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and commemorate the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, Secretary Xu's book "Collected Works" is officially published, which is of great significance. As a famous Marxist theorist within the Party, Secretary Xu has been thinking and writing for decades. He still serves as the director of the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Engineering Advisory Committee, and has made important contributions to promoting the sinicization, modernization and popularization of Marxism. This set of 5-volume "Collection of Essays" with more than 3.3 million words, including 355 articles, speeches and reports is a concentrated display of Secretary Xu's practical experience and theoretical thinking in the five major areas of theory, academic, news publishing, radio, film and television, culture and art, and governance over the past 40 years of reform and opening up. It faithfully records the fruitful achievements of Secretary Xu in all aspects and multiple fields from news business to cultural management, from central department decision-making to local governance, from practical exploration to theoretical construction. After studying the "Collected Works", Secretary Xu's firm ideals and beliefs, sincere people's sentiments, lofty strategic vision, profound theoretical attainments, and plain language style are vividly felt on the paper, making people feel deeply that this is a theoretical masterpiece and practical masterpiece that vividly shows the fundamental positions and fundamental issues of contemporary Chinese Communist Party's "where to use force, who to use affection, how to use heart, and what kind of person to be".
"Collected Works" clearly conveys the power of faith. Secretary Xu has been engaged in the Party’s propaganda and ideology and ideological work for a long time. The "Collected Works" consistently reflects Secretary Xu’s firm belief in Marxism and the ideal of communism, constantly improving his ability to use Marxism to analyze and solve practical problems, and always stand at the height of faith to truly learn, understand, and apply the vivid practice of Marxism as a special skill.
General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: "The fundamental reason for us Communists is our belief in Marxism." Understand the in-depth thinking of how our party promotes the sinicization, modernization and popularization of Marxism in the "Collected Works" and opens up a new realm of the development of Marxism in contemporary China and Marxism in the 21st century. It has strong practical significance for us to firmly uphold the lofty ideal of communism and the common ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics, transform our firm belief in Marxism into an ideological weapon for building a socialist ideology with strong cohesion and leadership, and better use new ideas to arm the whole party, educate the people, guide practice, and promote work.
"Collected Works" clearly conveys the power of loyalty. Secretary Xu joined the Communist Party of China in May 1973 and has been a member of the Party for nearly half a century. The "Collection of Essays" concentrates on Secretary Xu's loyalty to the Party, the people, and the cause for decades.
In different positions such as Xinhua News Agency branch, editor-in-chief of Guangming Daily, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the Party Group and director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee, deputy chairman of the Finance and Economics Committee of the National People's Congress, leader of the Central Inspection Team, director of the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Engineering Advisory Committee, Secretary Xu led the vast number of cadres and the masses to emancipate their minds, seize opportunities, overcome difficulties, and be enterprising, fully integrate loyalty into the cause of the Party and the people, fully demonstrating the vivid image of the Chinese Communists adhering to the principle of the Party first, the cause of the Party first, and the interests of the people first, daring to be clear-cut, daring to be serious and tough, and working hard, doing their best, starting and ending well, and doing things well.

Secretary Xu has always been promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture from reporting on culture to managing culture, from inheriting culture to developing culture, and always maintains the precious confidence of "not afraid of the clouds blocking the eyes" no matter what kind of noise he encounters. The "Collection of Essays" includes Secretary Xu's in-depth research on traditional cultures such as Yanhuang culture, Yao, Shun and Yu culture, and Heluo culture, and faithfully records the fruitful achievements made by Secretary Xu in accelerating the pace of cultural system reform, promoting the great development and prosperity of culture, promoting the construction of socialist spiritual civilization, and building a cultural province.
These thoughts and practices demonstrate broad and profound cultural confidence and contain deep and lasting cultural power. They are of great inspirational significance for us to adhere to the guidance of Marxism, adhere to creative transformation and innovative development, adhere to the position of Chinese culture, based on contemporary Chinese reality, and combine the conditions of the current era to develop a scientific popular socialist culture for the modernization, the world, and the future.
"Collected Works" clearly conveys the power of responsibility. Secretary Xu has gone through many important positions and has a very large role transformation span, but he has always demonstrated his love and persistence for his career with his strong adaptability, and has truly achieved "everyone loves everything, every one has achievements, every one has achievements."
In particular, Secretary Xu was transferred from the position of Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television to the Henan Provincial Party Committee, quickly adapted to new positions, new requirements and challenges, and proposed the "four more attention" in a forward-looking manner. He worked with the cadres and masses in the province to promote Henan to achieve four historic transformations, including the largest province in grain production, an emerging industrial province, an important economic province, and an influential cultural province, which fully demonstrated a sense of responsibility to work hard and a concern and sentiment that cares about the people.
General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized at the National Propaganda and Ideological Work Conference and the Party’s News and Public Opinion Work Symposium that we must continuously enhance “foot strength, eyesight, brain strength, and writing skills.” This is not only a requirement for the majority of propaganda workers, but also a common expectation for all party members and leading cadres. Secretary Xu has worked on the propaganda and ideological front for a long time, from the president and editor-in-chief who plan the development of news units to the minister and director of the general bureau who leads the development of the cause, from the secretary of the party committee of the ruling party to the director of the Central "Horse Engineering" Advisory Committee who builds his heart and makes his soul. He always regards the "four forces" as an important guide for his own thinking, planning and promoting his work. The "Collected Works" is of great inspirational significance for us to truly understand the requirements of the "four forces" from the aspects of how to learn, how to view, how to write, how to do it and persevere in practice.
We need to learn from Secretary Xu’s “foot strength” of seeking truth and pragmatism. "Socialism is done." General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: "Only by working hard and working hard can we achieve one great goal after another and achieve one fruitful result after another." In different job positions, Secretary Xu always regards "seeking truth from facts, seeking truth and being pragmatic, keeping the right direction, starting and ending well, doing things well, and doing things well, and doing things practically" as his life creed. He has won praise from the majority of cadres and the masses with his spirit of leaving marks on iron and leaving marks on stones. We must learn from Secretary Xu’s "eyeight" of concern for the people. "Serve the people wholeheartedly" is the fundamental purpose of our party. Secretary Xu always takes the masses in his heart, sees the sufferings of the masses and worrys in his heart, and consistently looks at reform problems, plans reform ideas, formulates reform measures, and judges the effectiveness of reform from the perspective of the masses and the interests of the masses. Especially when he was appointed as Secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee, Secretary Xu had declared affectionately from the first day of his tenure that "I have become one of the 96 million people in Henan." Many touching warm moments recorded in the "Collection of Essays" and other touching warm moments, including the complete exemption of agricultural tax, "recreating the image of Henan", "I had a spring date with migrant workers", "shaking hands at the first time to rescue the miner", and other touching warm moments, vividly presented Secretary Xu's sincere and passionate feelings for the people.
We need to learn the "brain power" of Secretary Xu scientific thinking . We need to learn Secretary Xu’s silent "writing skills". Only by going deep into reality can you capture the moments of life and be close to the masses can you perceive the emotions and needs of the masses. A large number of articles with simple and vivid writing styles in the "Collection of Essays" reflect the extremely valuable compassion and empathy of Secretary Xu as a senior journalist and senior party leading cadres, as well as the infectiousness of spring breeze and rain and silent moistening things. Studying the "Collected Works" is of great inspiration for us to better explore cultural materials that are rich in the atmosphere of the times, represent the mainstream of society, and have wide recognition in our work, truly combine solving ideological problems with solving practical problems, and better use easy-to-understand and popular methods to reason and do our work, so that the masses can truly listen to, understand, and feel it easily.
Secretary Xu's "Collected Works" not only put forward many enlightening views and concepts, but also conveys a kind of spiritual power for contemporary Chinese Communists to forge ahead, and inspires us to continuously enhance the "foot strength, eyesight, brain strength, and writing skills" of Chinese Communists in the new era in practice.
The cause of the party is an eternal cause. In this sense, Secretary Xu's "Collected Works" is not only a precious document that records the past, but also a book of inspirational references for the future. We must transform our belief, loyalty, self-confidence and responsibility to Secretary Xu into a powerful driving force for our own duties, upholding the truth and innovating, and continuing to strive, better study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, devote ourselves to our work with a spirit of no time and seizing the day, and strive to achieve achievements that are worthy of the times and the Party and the people.
