Local police said this weekend was "particularly violent" for Chicago teenagers because there were 9 of the 43 people who were shot. At around 4:00 on the 23rd, a shooting in the Brighton Park community in Chicago caused five people to be shot, including three of them, including two 20-year-olds. In the early morning of the 22nd, a 15-year-old boy was hit by a bullet on the sidewalk. A few hours later, another 15-year-old boy was shot. On the evening of the 22nd, a 16-year-old boy died in Longdale, Chicago. At a playground near West Garfield Park, a 14-year-old boy was scratched by a bullet on his face. On the evening of the 21st, a 12-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were shot.
According to Chicago Police Department data, as of the end of September, there have been 519 homicide cases in Chicago this year. In September this year alone, 70 homicides and 295 shootings occurred.
