Why do rare seabirds appear in the iron yellow sand?
Bird investigator Zhou Minjun analyzed that this white-topped black tern was likely to be , which was swept into the inland by Typhoon Chando, and then returned to the ocean via rivers and lakes and other obvious landmarks.
Historical data shows that on September 1, 2018, Suzhou City recorded the first typhoon "Wambia" to pass through Suzhou just before the white-topped black tern, indicating the impact of the typhoon on pelagic birds.
Iron yellow sand has become an important "stay" for a variety of migratory birds. Up to now, more than 220 species of birds have been recorded in the Tiehuangsha Wetland, including yellow-breasted buntings, hooded cranes, curly-feathered pelican, black-faced spoonbill, eastern white stork and other countries Important protection of birds. Bird investigators observed small cymbals migrating in groups in the Tiehuangsha Wetland, which is also a new bird record in Changshu City.
Iron Yellow Sand was originally a sandbar on the Yangtze River beach, formed by alluvial sediments of the Yangtze River. As it is one of the only four areas in the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River that have the conditions for the construction of the deep-water port , the undeveloped iron yellow sand once became the focus of attention of all parties.
Changshu once planned to build iron yellow sand into a logistics base , which will be linked with Changshu Port to achieve regional port linkage, where the coastline depth can reach 12-15 meters, and a 10,000-ton wharf can be built.
And the introduction of a planning document, changed the "destiny" of Tiehuangsha.
In August 2017, the "Changshu City Riverside Eco-economic Circle Conceptual Plan" was released, and the development positioning of Tiehuangsha came to a 180-degree turn: no longer conducts large-scale development, but implements ecological protection.
Nowadays, from large tidal flats and reeds,
has gradually become an eye full of rape flowers and sunflower ,
The sand is gradually transformed into soil.
The ecological treatment of iron yellow sand has achieved remarkable results...
In order to allow more citizens to share the fruits of ecological protection, the iron yellow sand ecological island was opened to the public this spring. Now, after nearly 3 months of ecological conservation, the iron yellow sand will be open again for a limited time starting on September 12 _strong14.
