Today’s question: Where should I look if my cat has a fever?

What are the symptoms of cats with fever?
Purulent nose, yellow discharge around the eyes, lethargy, depression, body temperature exceeding 39.5℃, lying on the bed, refusing to eat, drinking a lot of water
Some cats have fever that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even trembling all over.
Poop scrapers should pay careful attention~
The normal body temperature of cats is generally between 37.8-39.2℃. Cat body temperature is generally on the high side, but if the cat's body temperature is found to rise (exceeding 39.5℃), the owner must pay attention immediately.
So how do you judge whether your cat has a fever on a daily basis?
Touch the roots of the cat’s ears

Under normal circumstances, the temperature of the cat’s ears is generally lower than the body temperature and is relatively cold to the touch. If you suspect your cat has a fever, you can make a rough judgment by feeling the temperature of the cat's ears. In most cases, a high temperature indicates that the cat may have a fever. At the same time, the breath exhaled is relatively hot, and the tips of the ears may also appear red.
However, in some cases, the cat is hot but its ears are cold. At this time, if you still use the ear temperature as the standard to judge whether the cat is in a fever state, it is easy to misjudge. Therefore, it is recommended to use ear thermometer to measure the temperature inside the cat's ears. You can also use mercury thermometer or electronic thermometer to measure the temperature of the cat's groin to judge.
Touch the cat’s nose

Under healthy conditions, the cat’s nose is relatively moist and cold. When a cat is sick, if you touch the cat's nose, it will feel hot and dry, and the cat will not lick its nose when it is asleep, indicating that the cat may have a fever. A thermometer at home can be placed inside the cat's anus for one minute to check the rectal temperature. When the temperature exceeds 39.5°C, it means that the cat's body temperature has increased. If the body temperature remains high and does not come down, timely medical examination and treatment are required.
Touch the cat’s belly and paw pads

You can also touch the cat’s belly and four foot pads on a daily basis. If it is much hotter than usual, consider whether you have a fever. It is best to use a thermometer to measure it.
Accurate temperature measurement method

① Measuring the rectal temperature
Measuring the rectal temperature is more accurate. Hold the cat's tail up, insert the front end of the thermometer into the anus, about 1-2cm, and test for 2 minutes. If the temperature exceeds 39.5°C, it means the cat has a fever.
② Measure the groin temperature
Use a thermometer close to the groin between the inner thigh and the belly, clamp the thermometer, and measure for 5 minutes. If the temperature exceeds 39.5°C, it means the cat has a fever.
Attention! If your cat has a fever above 40 degrees, be sure to seek medical attention and get a fever-reducing injection!
