"Stone Mountain Elf" white-headed langur is unique to China and is only distributed in National first-class key protected wildlife in Chongzuo , Guangxi. In recent years, Chongzuo City has continuously improved the ecological environment of the habitat of white-headed langur monkeys by continuously improving the infrastructure construction of protected areas and strengthening monitoring and protection. The number of white-headed langur monkeys has steadily increased.
At the Banli Management Station of Chongzuo White-headed Langurs National Nature Reserve in Guangxi, there are about 46 groups of more than 450 white-headed Langurs. The patrolmen follow the monkey group every day to carefully grasp the living distribution of white-headed Langurs in the reserve.
The global population of white-headed langurs is only more than 1,300, of which 90% are distributed in the Chongzuo White-headed langurs National Nature Reserve in Guangxi.
White-headed langurs are very "choosy to eat". They eat more than 30 leaves every day, which has very high requirements for the ecological environment of their habitat, making it very difficult to protect. In order to increase the protection of white-headed langur monkeys, the protection area has built 4 management stations and 7 management points, and a remote video surveillance system can be established that can monitor more than 20 key monkey groups around the clock, achieving full coverage of daily patrol and monitoring of 25,578 hectares of protected areas, improving daily monitoring efficiency. At present, the protected area has restored the habitat of white-headed langur monkeys and 5 water sources for white-headed langur monkeys, further alleviating the problems of food source shortage of white-headed langur monkeys and difficulty in drinking water in the dry season.
On October 1, 2021, the "Chongzuo City White-headed Langur Habitat Protection Regulations" was implemented. The local government strives to build a fully equipped and interesting white-headed Langur ecological science popularization education base to create a good social atmosphere of knowing, loving, and protecting monkeys.
Nong Dengpan, deputy director of the Management Center of the Chongzuo White-headed Langur National Nature Reserve in Guangxi, said that the next step is to continue to expand the scope of the white-headed Langur habitat, further improve the popularity of the white-headed Langur and the public's awareness of protection, and continue to do a good job in ecological restoration of the white-headed Langur.
