Recently, the central management station of Kuankuo Water Protection Area used a newly built resource monitoring system to monitor two uncommon water birds in Jinzi Reservoir. After expert identification, the white water bird is red-billed gull (scientific name: Larus ridibundus), and the gray-black water bird is skeleton chicken (scientific name: Fulica atra).

The red-billed gull, commonly known as water pigeon , has similar body shape and fur color to pigeons, and is a bird of the genus gull family of gulls. The mouth and feet are red, most of the feathers on the body are white, and the tail feathers are black. In China, it is mainly winter migratory bird . It leaves its breeding ground from September to October in autumn and migrates southward. According to the existing data of Kuankuo Water Reserve, both types of birds are the first observation records of the reserve and are new recorded species. The discovery of these two birds has brought the record of 229 bird species in broad water reserves.
