It is understood that Kaiyuan is an important site for migratory birds to stop and replenish food on the East Asia-Australia migration route. In this world journey across the northern and southern hemispheres, Kaiyuan is just a stop for them to "rest" in the middle. According to records, in recent years, nearly 100 species of migratory birds have been migrated every year.
Cross the mountains and rivers across the ocean, a thousand miles a day. During the migration, every bird is facing the test of life and death. In order to provide this group of "guests", Kaiyuan has made preparations early every year, using various publicity activities online and offline, and jointly carrying out special actions and patrols for barbed wire mesh demolition, etc., to continuously enhance citizens' awareness of loving and protecting birds.
"Kaiyuan continues to increase efforts to crack down on illegal and criminal activities that destroy forest land resources, and strive to protect these cute elves. Staff from the Municipal Forestry and Grassland Bureau introduced that in 2022, Kaiyuan has investigated and dealt with 41 forestry administrative cases in 2022, and established the Nanpanjiang basin wetland protection community and the Triangle Sea wetland protection community to strengthen patrol and law enforcement in key wetland areas, and effectively protect bird habitat .

In 2019, photography enthusiasts first discovered a migrating black stork in the Triangle Sea, with only one at that time. Black storks are called "giant pandas among birds".
