Yangtze River Daily Great Wuhan Client September 25 (Special Sentence Reporter Yang Jiafeng) Liu Qisheng, 59 years old this year, is a visual observer of the 2022 Yangtze River Porpoise Science Expedition Team. His face was red in black and red like a knife, and he had already adapted to the dryness of the late autumn river wind.

takes turns to look at the river with a telescope on the top of the boat every day, and do not miss any "small black spots", especially the river with many fish and gentle water flow. He hopes to find more porpoises through his eyes.

Liu Qisheng first saw the finless porpoise 42 years ago. He joined the Yichang Fisheries Brigade at the age of 16. As a fisherman, he drove a boat to Yangtze River to fish every day, and could meet the finless porpoise with the "smiling" on his face every now and then. At that time, everyone called the finless porpoise " Jiangzhu ", and he also saw the finless porpoise.

Liu Qisheng, who was hardworking and hardworking, soon became a fishing expert in the unit.

Liu Qisheng can always accurately judge the location of the river fish. If you go down the net, you will have a correct head, and if you go up the net, you will have a harvest. As time goes by, Liu Qisheng found that Baiji Pig was missing and there were fewer and fewer "river pigs". Until one day, he learned that the White Dolphin had functionally extinct, and he felt lost.

Once upon a time, I watched them playing in the distance while casting a net. I was considered a familiar friend, but suddenly I lost it and couldn't help but feel sad. In the eyes of him and his previous fishermen, the white dolphin is an iconic animal on the Yangtze River. Another iconic fish is white sturgeon , which is known as the "King of Yangtze River Fish" and is the largest fish in the Yangtze River. By the time Liu Qisheng was fishing, he had rarely seen a white sturgeon.

In the mid-1980s, after the white sturgeon was included in the protected fish, no one dared to catch it anymore. Later, the white sturgeon became increasingly rare until July 21, 2022, the white sturgeon was declared extinct by the World Union for Conservation of Nature .

"Whenever I hear these news of the extinction of fish that I have seen, I feel uncomfortable." Liu Qisheng said.

Liu Qisheng fishes on the Yangtze River all year round, rests for 6 days a month. Since 2000, no matter how hard Liu Qisheng tried to catch fish, he has never seen the scene of catching hundreds of kilograms of fish in one net, and he often empty the net.

In November 2018, Liu Qisheng responded to the call to abandon the Internet and became a patrol officer of the Yichang Fisheries Supervision Brigade. His specific job is to protect fishing in the Yangtze River, patrol and crack down on illegal fishing. "Everyone has changed from fishing to protect fishing. Different positions and responsibilities are completely different." When protecting fishing, Liu Qisheng rushed to the forefront like he did when he was fishing in the past. One day, near the railway bridge in the Yichang River section, an illegal fisherman caught more than 50 kilograms of river fish. When he was about to leave, he was caught by Liu Qisheng and other fishermen. In the end, the stolen fishing net was confiscated and fined 10,000 yuan.

"Now, illegal fishing is getting less and less, and sometimes I can't find it together in a year," said Liu Qisheng.

What makes Liu Qisheng happy is that there are more and more porpoises in the Yangtze River. Even in the Yichang River section in December, the porpoise, known as the "smiling angel", "often jumps out of the water to say hello to us."
