The Rodanthe eye butterfly is a medium-sized eye butterfly, and the male and female are similar. The male butterfly has gray-brown wings on the back, five eye spots on the hind wings, and reddish-brown spots on the hip corners. The ventral surface of the wings is lighter in color. There is a reddish-brown diagonal band from the center to the rear corner of the front edge of the forewing. The front edge is folded inward, with white spots on the outside. There are 2 parallel dark lines in the middle chamber, and 4 on the sub-outer edge. Eye spots. The hind wings have 2 reddish-brown horizontal lines, and the outer horizontal lines are thick and protrude outward under the first eye spot. There are 6 eye spots on the outer side, and the first eye spot is close to the outer transverse band. The female butterfly has rounder and wider wings.
The Rhodanda-eye butterfly has one generation per year, and adults are mostly seen from June to August. It likes shade and is often found in bamboo forests. The host plant of the larvae is unknown. Distributed in East China, Central China, Southwest China and other places.
