Generally speaking of species in the iguana family, everyone thinks of species like and green iguana that move more than one meter in size. In fact, there are many small people in the iguana family, such as the introduced in the previous issue. White-lipped tree lizard, emerald dragon lizard, spotted flying lizard, etc. The brown-backed tree lizard in popular science today is also a small iguana species, generally not exceeding 20 cm in length.
The habit of the brown-backed tree lizard is the same as its name. It spends most of its life in trees or under shrubs. In rare cases, it will be active on the ground and use small arthropods as its main food. It has a strange appearance, with exaggerated thorn-like raised scales on the top of the head, just like the " moxican " hairstyle. There are also more obvious thorn-like raised scales on the cheeks and the throat sac of the lower jaw.
The body color of the adult brown-backed tree lizard is ordinary, generally gray-brown or brownish-yellow on the back with regular black horizontal spots, and the abdomen is yellow-white. The larvae are more beautiful, often with yellow-green or patina on both sides of their bodies, and more camouflage.
The brown-backed tree lizard in the photo is its larva. Photographer Fan Yi recalled that he was shooting an interesting scene of this young brown-backed tree lizard at the time. “It caught a small locust at the time. It may be out of'fun', this young brown-backed tree lizard. The tree lizard put the locust in its mouth and chewed it a few times, and then spit it out." Fan Yi said, this is a bit like a tease after a cat catches a mouse. After several repetitions, the brown-backed tree lizard ate the locusts into its stomach, "Like a human child, with a childlike heart."
