1981 May, Yangxian Yao Ravine discovered the world's only seven Wild Crested Ibis. In the past 40 years, the crested ibis has gone from discovery, protection, to continuous reproduction, and even went abroad to become friendly messengers. At present, according to incomplete statistics, the global population of crested ibis has increased from 7 when it was discovered in 1981 to more than 7,000 now, of which more than 5,000 are in Shaanxi. The breeding habitat of the crested ibis has also expanded from Yangxian in Shaanxi to Chenggu, Xixiang, Foping, Nanzheng, Hantai, Mianliuba, and span1 in Shaanxi. In the 9 counties of span3span and Ningqiang, the habitat has expanded from less than 5 square kilometers at the time of discovery to more than 3,000 square kilometers at present. The scope of activities has expanded to more than 15,000 square kilometers in more than ten counties (districts) in Hanzhong, Baoji, and Ankang, Shaanxi, and has been spreading year by year.
