November 10th of this year is the day that Mr. Zhang Song, the founder of Chinese broadcasting theory, one of the important founders of Chinese broadcasting and hosting art education, and the famous broadcasting and hosting art educator , left us for ten years. The development of Chinese broadcasting has gone through different historical periods and relied on different media inheritance, and has achieved numerous achievements. However, in the constantly updating media environment, how to maintain integrity and innovate, and where should we go?
In this issue of "BoBohui", we recommend a miscellany written by Mr. Zhang Song in 2010. The article points out that broadcasting and hosting professionals must rely on their strength to survive and develop. Only when practical ability, scientific research ability and teaching ability promote each other can a new trend of professional development be presented and a virtuous cycle be formed. For the development of the broadcasting and hosting profession, Mr. Wang has drawn up a prospect and blueprint of "emerging as a new force, ranking among the best, lasting prosperity, and staying youthful forever". More than ten years have passed and things have changed, but Mr. Wang’s views are still pertinent and insightful, with strong practical relevance and foresight of the times.
ten years!
Thoughts...
Let us understand the changes of the times and future development of the discipline from Mr. Zhang Song's awareness of worries and ardent expectations for Chinese broadcasting. I also hope that future generations will ride the wind and waves and never Don't forget their ability to transform rain!
The guests in this issue are
Zhang Song
Zhang Song (July 27, 1936 - November 10, 2012), male, Han nationality, formerly known as Zhang Yongchang, and broadcasting name is Li Chang, from Yixian County, Hebei Province. National-level teaching teacher. The founder of Chinese broadcasting theory, one of the important founders of Chinese broadcasting and hosting art education, and a famous broadcasting and hosting art educator. is the first dean of , School of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Communication University of China, and the first doctoral tutor in broadcasting in China.
Summary : The survival and development of the broadcasting and hosting profession basically depends on the prosperity and leap of the radio and television industry. Of course, we have to rely on our own maturity and growth. History has proven that the development of the broadcasting and hosting profession is just like sailing against the current. If you don’t advance, you will retreat! We must uphold the enterprising spirit of " as heaven moves forward , and gentlemen strive for self-improvement" and proactively adapt to the regular development of the radio and television industry.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the older generation of broadcasting artists inherited the glorious tradition of Yan'an broadcasting. They not only deeply explored the basic laws of broadcasting art, but also drew nourishment from the fiery life of workers, peasants and soldiers. At the same time, they also continued to improve their understanding in theory and constantly clarified their social responsibility of "mentors and helpful friends" and their inheritance mission of "cultivating a team". Broadcasting models are presented one after another, broadcasting theories are thought-provoking, and the broadcasting team is growing day by day, thus creating a new situation in the broadcasting and hosting profession and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development. As society moves forward and the times change, twists and turns inevitably occur, which sometimes turn out to be the wrong path for rise and fall, and the juncture of success or failure! We should learn from history!
一
Starting from the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, the military parade was broadcast to the world from the Tiananmen Gate Tower. People heard the majestic and enthusiastic voices of Qi Yue and Ding Yilan, and felt the joy and shock of being rejoiced and working hard. Since then, the charisma, inspiration and charm of audio language have increasingly entered people's daily lives and become an indispensable spiritual enjoyment. The call for announcers in urgent need of radio stations across the country is very strong and urgent. In 1963, following three short-term training courses, Beijing Broadcasting Institute took the lead in recruiting college students majoring in Chinese broadcasting in my country's higher education institutions. In 1966, when the "Cultural Revolution" began, enrollment was stopped, and the fledgling broadcasting major suddenly disappeared. This is the “flash in the pan” stage.
二
It was not until 1974, after the beloved Premier Zhou personally intervened, that the Beijing Broadcasting Institute was re-established, and the almost aborted broadcasting major began to recruit students again. Starting from grade 77 and upgraded to undergraduate level, this major has finally stabilized and entered its survival period.
began to recruit masters in 1980, and obtained the right to award Master of Arts, which marked the bright future of broadcasting major. Little did they know that at a national broadcasting conference two years later, a leader’s speech surprised all the delegates. The leader said frankly: "Don't worry, everyone, the announcer still has at least ten years to live!" Is it a consolation or a reminder? It’s about the leadership’s understanding and decision-making. How can we not be worried?
After many people’s hard work, we finally had the “Broadcasting Professional Title Series” approved by the State Council, and the evaluation work began. " broadcasting guidance ", "chief announcer", "first-level announcer", "second-level announcer", etc. are gradually being understood by people. Later, although there were repeated incidents, there was finally no danger and it has been successfully implemented to this day.
In 1980, it began to recruit master's degree students and obtained the right to award master's degrees. Teachers Qi Yue and Xu Heng recruited master students in the two directions of broadcasting acoustics and basic broadcasting theory and practice respectively. In 1999, it began to recruit doctoral students in the field of Chinese broadcasting. So far, short-term training courses, junior college courses, continuation courses, undergraduate courses, dual degree , training courses, master of art classes, etc. have been held continuously. There are about 300 colleges and universities in the country that have established broadcasting and hosting majors, and there are about 60 colleges and universities offering undergraduate courses, with more than 20,000 students enrolled. Professional education in broadcasting and hosting has entered a stage of mushrooming.
三
In October 1985, "Broadcasting Pronunciation" and "Broadcasting Basics" (later renamed "Broadcasting Creation Basics") were officially published; in October 1994, "Chinese Broadcasting Science" was published. Professional teaching materials and treatises on broadcasting and hosting have been published one after another. Currently, there are more than 200 books and hundreds of papers published. Academic organizations with China Radio and Television Association Broadcasting and Hosting Committee as the core are located in various provinces and cities. The atmosphere of academic research is very strong, and academic activities are becoming increasingly frequent and in the ascendant.
Although theoretical and academic debates have existed since the 1990s, and the confrontation of different viewpoints has never stopped, there are still similarities on many fundamental issues. For example, are broadcasting and hosting opposites or the same? Has the broadcasting era passed and the host era arrived? Facts have proved that the statements in many treatises are scientific, correct and unquestionable. Practical and theoretical tests tell us, almost without exception, that the core concepts of Chinese broadcasting are in line with the development laws of the radio and television industry, and no other new system has yet emerged. Academic originality and cutting-edgeness should be said to be the product of the progress of the times and the crystallization of collective wisdom. It has become a symbol of history and can only be surpassed but cannot be erased.
The academic field of broadcasting is still immature and empty, and there are many uncultivated virgin lands. More original seeds are waiting for us to sow, cultivate and harvest. This is the great opportunity we face. It is best not to give up or be lazy, as long as you devote yourself to it with no distractions, "Don't be happy with things, don't be sad with yourself", "Be worried about the worries of the world first, and be happy after the joys of the world" and "Career is the most important thing in life", there will always be a season of fruitful results. Let us experience the beauty of the harvest without guilt or regret!
四
Since the new century, the impetuous and unwilling atmosphere in society, the eagerness for quick success and the tendency to forget one's own good, coupled with the evaluation standards that emphasize quantity over quality, emphasis on form over connotation, emphasis on hype over virtue, and emphasis on publicity rather than wisdom, have caused some misconduct and helplessness in our disciplines. In particular, broadcasts and presides over education, which has pushed the foundation of undergraduates, the rigor of teachers, the hard work of students, and the specifications of talents into the vicious cycle of "self-righteousness" and "everyone's own way."
If production is today and technology is tomorrow, then education is the day after tomorrow. The key to the so-called "teaching students in accordance with their aptitude", "teaching without distinction", "being a teacher by example" and "teaching others tirelessly" lies in the leading teacher. As the main body, students must of course abide by the school's rules and regulations and teachers' plans and arrangements; their autonomy is also reflected in consciousness and initiative. Therefore, teachers must clarify teaching ideas, activate teaching methods, enrich teaching content, improve class efficiency, and provide students with correct, cutting-edge, scientific, and solid moral cultivation, knowledge reserves, and professional skills.
However, when it comes to how to cultivate talents and what kind of talents to cultivate, there is often no purpose and no rules. Some teachers seem to be content with giving lectures one lecture at a time and lack initiative; some students seem to be content with living day by day without a sense of urgency. The "teaching and mutual learning" actually turned into "mutual perfunctory". Our professional requirements: "Both political integrity and talent, excellent voice and appearance" must be implemented into "class efficiency". Shorten "year" to "month" and "day" to "hour". Only in this way can we "seize every moment" and "get together". To ensure class efficiency, teachers should not say a word that has nothing to do with the teaching content; students should not think of anything that has nothing to do with the teaching content. Teachers and students interact with each other to maximize the effectiveness of each class period. In this way, the purpose of teaching can be truly realized and qualified talents can be cultivated.
Therefore, grasping the improvement of the teaching team has become a major event that cannot be ignored for a moment. The most important achievement of institutions is talent cultivation, and the key to this is teachers. Maybe the hardware facilities are very modern, maybe the campus construction is gorgeous, but these only play a supporting role. No matter how tall the building is or how much space it occupies, it is not as stable and strong as the teaching staff!
五
At present, the professional education in broadcasting and hosting has indeed seen a prosperous situation of "all the heroes competing in the Central Plains". However, who will win? Who can suddenly emerge to control the overall situation and become the first to become the "overlord"? We can only let history judge and strength answer.
The so-called "strength" roughly includes the following aspects.
The first is "practical ability". The applied and practical nature of our discipline is very obvious. She needs to show her personality in language arts on the basis of the commonality of solid language skills, and achieve "both political integrity and talent, excellent voice and form", "focusing on broadcasting, one specialty and multiple talents", "scripted broadcasting is the icing on the cake, and unscripted broadcasting is a success", "integrate into the program, be a good host, control the process, and be fascinating." If the practical ability is insufficient, either the lips and tongue are soft and the breath is rigid, or the feelings are weak and the skills are unfamiliar, or the person is aimless and lazy, or he is self-proclaimed and forgetful... he is not qualified for the job of broadcasting and hosting. You must persist in practicing diligently and persistently, otherwise you will lose your advantage and give up halfway. The final result of cultivating broadcasting and hosting professionals depends on whether they can create audio language in front of the microphone and the camera to form characteristics and style. This is where the core competitiveness lies. Don't just pursue the superficial glory and glamor, that will look like a silver pewter gun tip and is not your real ability.
The second is "scientific research capabilities." Our discipline must attach great importance to scientific research, constantly summarize practical experience, learn from relevant results of other disciplines, consolidate theoretical foundation, and strive to move to the forefront. Only in this way can we expand our academic horizons, deepen the connotation of the subject, enhance the value of the subject, and guide practical behavior. Scientific research in the broadcasting and hosting profession must be based on practical experience. Without practical insights, it is difficult to understand the true meaning of subject theory, to write high-quality teaching materials, and to carry out original and innovative research. How can we lead the construction of disciplines if we just talk outside the door or scratch the surface? How is it possible to occupy the forefront of disciplines? At present, the development of discipline practice and competition between disciplines are very rapid. Stagnation means regression, and falling behind means decline!
The third is "teaching ability". Professional education mainly depends on the teaching level and quality of teachers.Students who have strong practical ability but are not good at exposition, strong scientific research ability but not good at elaboration, deep experience but poor refining, new ideas but vague expressions, what students gain from listening to lectures may be scattered or incomprehensible. What knowledge and inspiration can be gained from them? To "lead by example", "be a teacher by example", "teach students in accordance with their aptitude" and "teach and learn from each other", they should not only "preach, teach, and solve doubts", but also arouse students' "questioning, thinking and questioning". Rich teaching experience, correct teaching ideas, appropriate teaching methods, and flexible teaching forms are what teachers should accumulate and value most, and should not be slighted or relaxed for a moment. Especially in small classes, the skills of listening and correcting abilities are most important, and specific guidance for different individuals is most needed. We must be good at learning lessons from every lesson without any perfunctory behavior. Otherwise, as time goes by, there will be no light of wisdom, and it will be useless!
These three abilities complement each other and promote each other, so that it is possible to present a new trend and form a virtuous circle. However, the current situation is worrying, mainly because it has entered the misunderstanding of complacency. Think of these three abilities as "idealistic" requirements that are dispensable, big or small, more or less, and only look at whether you can speak, write, and take classes. As long as you can do this, you are considered qualified. Even the minimum lower limit is blurred. Will there be an upward ladder or a yardstick for improvement? The competition here is of course very fierce and cruel. On the surface, invisibly, there must be precedence; in essence, invisibly, there must be survival of the fittest!
Six
At present, the great development of the broadcasting and hosting profession has almost led to disorderly competition. The chaos and confusion caused by unlimited expansion of enrollment have indeed caused people to worry. The so-called "prosperity but not prosperity" and "prosperity but not prosperity", the excitement on the surface, but the exhaustion behind it; the huge number of people and the poor quality are like a noisy market, a mixture of good and bad, mud and sand, and the serious consequences may soon appear.
There are many scenes in history where princes aspired to the throne, wars broke out, and heroes competed for power. Today, we are facing exactly this situation. Competition is inevitable, and the outcome is uncertain. How can we stand out and be sure of victory in an environment of "survival of the fittest and natural selection"? It is worthy of serious consideration by every team.
"Learning is like sailing against the current. If you don't advance, you will retreat." This is true for people and the same is true for career.
If the team lacks cohesion and the people are scattered; if there is no achievement in teaching, little innovation in scientific research, and most of the talents are mediocre; if the graduation distribution becomes increasingly deserted, then the possibility of being eliminated one by one is not far away. The future of the broadcasting and hosting profession is in jeopardy!
Of course, where there is a will, there is a way. The road is tortuous, the future is bright, and the rules cannot be violated. History will eventually prove that those who are willing to be lonely and have high aspirations have full hope of reaching the pinnacle of glory!
First of all, we must clarify our own strengths and weaknesses, use our strengths and weaknesses, develop our potential, and strive to excel in a certain aspect and form our own characteristics; secondly, we must pay attention to the basics, strengthen our internal skills, and do not be impatient or impatient. We must work steadily and move forward one step at a time; once again, we must put in a lot of effort, exert great efforts, concentrate our superior forces to fight the war of annihilation, and cultivate the best people who can compare with one to ten; finally, we must highlight the results, work hard, keep pace with the times, and make the world look at us with admiration.
Only by focusing on "strength and status", strengthening one's self-cultivation at all times, and constantly striving to catch up, can one hope to "emerge as a new force," "be among the best," "last for a long time," and "remain youthful forever."
Now is the era of "everyone has led the way" for decades. The long history of running schools and the temporary leadership in education are not enough to maintain the leading position. In the field of broadcasting and hosting art education, in sustainable development , "leaders" who learn from others' strengths, have everyone's style, strive for excellence, and understand the righteousness will surely emerge one after another. The broadcasting and hosting major will definitely write a splendid chapter of "the brave one wins when we meet on a narrow road"!
