"Take out the party dues from my pocket and pay this quarter's party dues for me..."
On July 10, 1998, , 67-year-old Zhang Guofu passed away in the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital (hereinafter referred to as "301" Hospital) not long after he finished these words.
And this sentence became Zhang Guofu’s last words.
Zhang Guofu was originally awarded the "Special Combat Hero" by the country. He made great contributions in the War of Liberation and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
However, Zhang Guofu, who could have enjoyed a worry-free rest of his life with the title of "Super Hero", chose to remain anonymous and returned to Xinli Town, Yushu County, Jilin Province, where he became an ordinary coal miner...
Why did Zhang Guofu remain anonymous? In the end, what was the reason for his identity to be known again?
1. He was named a super hero for his outstanding military exploits.
In 1946, 15-year-old Zhang Guofu joined the 359th Brigade of the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army and became a soldier from then on.
In the army, Zhang Guofu was famous for his boldness. The soldiers in the army said that Zhang Guofu was very "tiger".
Northeastern dialect describes a person as a tiger, which means being decisive and aggressive in doing things.
Because of this, Zhang Guofu was nicknamed "Zhang Huzi".
Zhang Guofu was indeed very capable on the battlefield. During the War of Liberation, he only participated in the war for two years and made three meritorious service.
was a first-class meritorious service twice and a special meritorious service once.
has made outstanding achievements at a young age, which is enough to make people look at with admiration.
In September 1948, the Liaoshen Campaign began. It was in this battle that Zhang Guofu made special contributions. What did he do?
On October 26, , a battle broke out in a small town in Heishan County, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province.
Although the scale of the battle was small, it was this battle that captured the commander of the Westward Army Liao Yaoxiang and made a huge contribution to the victory of the Liaoshen Campaign.
The person who captured Liao Yaoxiang was Zhang Guofu.
On this day, Zhang Guofu's troops were attacked by Liao Yaoxiang's troops in Heishan County, and Liao Yaoxiang's command post was stationed in the Hu family shack area.
The troops who were suddenly attacked suddenly panicked.
Liao Yaoxiang
Zhang Guofu shouted: "Let's quickly locate the location of their command post!"
Soon, comrades discovered the command post hidden in the Hu's shack.
Zhang Guofu and several comrades carried blasting tubes and grenades , braving the hail of bullets and preparing to blow up the command post.
However, the enemy's firepower was too great, and the comrades were unable to withstand the enemy's fire during the charge.
Seeing his comrades falling down one after another, Zhang Guofu felt very anxious.
Zhang Guofu looked at his fallen comrades and thought of a plan. He suddenly lay down next to his comrades, pretending to be shot and fell to the ground.
When Liao Yaoxiang's army thought that Zhang Guofu's group had been basically eliminated, they turned to another group of Zhang Guofu's troops to attack.
At this moment, Zhang Guofu suddenly got up, carried the grenade hidden under him, and rushed into the command post while Liao Yaoxiang's troops were not paying attention.
Zhang Guofu stood at the door of the command post. Zhang Guofu raised the grenade and shouted: "Put down the weapon!"
The people in the command post looked at Zhang Guofu who suddenly broke in and looked at each other.
No one expected this situation. Everyone was afraid that Zhang Guofu would sound the grenade and die with him, so they surrendered one after another.
and the Hu family shack battle also ended.
Zhang Guofu later learned that what he had captured was Liao Yaoxiang's regiment.
It was this battle that accelerated the Liaoshen Campaign. Zhang Guofu's feat was also called a "magic stroke" by Chinese and foreign military experts.
At the National Congress of Fighting Heroes held in Beijing in September 1950, Chairman Mao held Zhang Guofu's hand and said:
"I heard that you 'Zhang Huzi' is very good at fighting. I thought you had three heads and six arms, and you were about the same height as Premier Zhou."
He even asked Zhang Guofu to compare with Premier Zhou. Zhang Guofu looked at the chairman and was speechless with excitement.
At this conference, among the 4 million warriors, Zhang Guofu was named a "Super Combat Hero", and only 78 could receive this honor.
Later, Zhang Guofu was injured in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and had to return to China for treatment.
After Zhang Guofu recovered and was discharged from hospital in 1952, the army prepared to arrange for him to continue his studies at the military academy.
But Zhang Guofu chose to return to his hometown and become an ordinary citizen.
At that time, the county committee of Yushu County heard that the county's "fighting hero" was coming back, and made special arrangements for Zhang Guofu's work in the county.
But Zhang Guofu refused them all. He returned home to marry a wife and have children, and became an ordinary farmer.
Moreover, in order to hide his identity, Zhang Guofu changed his name to "Zhang Guofu" and lived an anonymous pastoral life.
Later, because Zhang Guofu really knew nothing about farm work, the Mining Bureau in Hegang, Heilongjiang happened to be recruiting coal miners.
So, Zhang Guofu moved his family to Hegang, where Zhang Guofu worked in the coal mine for 25 years.
Many people do not understand why Zhang Guofu gave up his generous treatment and lived the life of an ordinary person.
Later, we gradually understood the honest and simple state of mind of the older generation of heroes.
2. Hiding fame only because of suffering
People say that no one dislikes fame and fame.
Indeed, the pursuit of fame and fortune is what most people pursue throughout their lives, and this is also human nature that cannot be escaped.
However, different growth environments will lead to different life attitudes and pursuits.
Some people pursue fame and fortune throughout their lives and define happiness as having money; while the happiness that some people pursue is the plainness and beauty of three meals a day and four seasons, and Zhang Guofu is the latter.
What prompted Zhang Guofu to have such an attitude towards life was the suffering he experienced and his compassion for the world.
Zhang Guofu's life as a coal miner was not easy. His family lived in a small bungalow of 12 square meters.
html One child and his wife sleep on the same kang, and life is very hard. For this reason, Zhang Guofu borrowed 60 yuan from his neighbor and built a side building next to the small bungalow. He and his children collected abandoned coal gangue for half a year and sold them to pay off the 60 yuan.
Although they lived in poverty, the family was very content and lived a happy life.
Every important holiday, it is the happiest thing for a family to squeeze into a small room and have a "big meal".
However, Zhang Guofu has another special habit.
Every year during the Spring Festival, this originally festive day, Zhang Guofu always went out to drink and often got drunk.
Zhang Guofu was not happy on this day. Zhang Guofu, who always focused on family reunion, always behaved abnormally during the Spring Festival.
When the children were young, they didn’t really care.
But as the children grew up, Zhang Guofu's actions aroused their dissatisfaction.
One Spring Festival, Zhang Guofu was still drinking outside the house with a glass of wine.
The dark sky sets off Zhang Guofu's lonely back, forming a strong contrast with the joy of the Spring Festival.
Zhang Guofu's eldest daughter came out of the house and said dissatisfied: "Dad! You can't secretly drink alone during the Spring Festival!"
Then, the younger son also poked his head out of the house and shouted: "That's right!"
Zhang Guofu put down his wine glass and looked at the sky without saying a word for a long time.
After a while, Zhang Guofu said: "Come, let me tell you a story."
Zhang Guofu's daughter later recalled that it was from this story that she and her younger siblings understood why her father was so abnormal during the Spring Festival.
During the Spring Festival of in 1951, the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea was still going on. Zhang Guofu and his comrades spent a Spring Festival on the battlefield.
Zhang Guofu, who has always paid attention to festivals, dug some wild vegetables from the battlefield and used them to make more than a dozen dumplings, hoping to celebrate a simple Spring Festival with his comrades.
However, just as the dumplings were wrapped, enemy planes suddenly came to bomb.
A bomb flew from the sky, and half of the newly made dumplings were blown away in an instant.
When the two comrades saw this, they rushed forward desperately, trying to take away the remaining dumplings.
However, as soon as he picked up the dumplings, another bomb flew towards him.
Seeing the grenade approaching, Zhang Guofu shouted: "Run! Run! The bomb is coming soon!"
However, the two comrades could not outrun the speed of the bomb. For a while, the dumplings were mixed with flesh and blood, and the two comrades died for protecting the dumplings.
It was precisely because of this incident that Zhang Guofu remembered his two best comrades as soon as he saw the dumplings.
After Zhang Guofu finished telling the story, he said to the children sincerely:
"The disaster has passed, but these memories are deeply engraved in the hearts of those of us who have experienced it. "It is because I have suffered hardships and experienced life and death before that I understand that the most precious thing in this world is not fame and fortune, but the relationship between people."
From this sentence, we also understand why Zhang Guofu lives a life of poverty despite fame and fortune.
Moreover, Zhang Guofu is a generation that grew up with the founding of New China.
In New China, which was facing a lot of waste, people in that area could best understand the country's difficulties and care about the country the most.
Zhang Guofu hid his identity precisely because he was unwilling to use his special identity to use state-sponsored money.
This is another important reason why Zhang Guofu remains anonymous.
3. The daughter suffering from lung cancer revealed her identity
However, the reason why Zhang Guofu finally exposed his identity was because of his daughter.
In 1997, , Zhang Guofu, who was 66 years old, coughed more and more violently.
At this time, he was living in the home of his daughter who was working in Beijing. Zhang Guofu's increasingly serious cough made his daughter very worried.
So, Zhang Guofu’s daughter took him to a hospital in Beijing for examination.
After his daughter’s repeated requests, Zhang Guofu agreed to his daughter’s request.
However, this investigation turned out to be lung cancer, accompanied by a large amount of fluid accumulation.
This frightened Zhang Guofu’s daughter.
The hospital asked Zhang Guofu to be hospitalized immediately. However, medical expenses and hospitalization fees in Beijing were very expensive. Zhang Guofu was unwilling to spend his daughter's money and repeatedly refused.
In desperation, her daughter admitted Zhang Guofu to Hegang People's Hospital for treatment.
However, Zhang Guofu’s lung cancer is already in the advanced stage.
Because Zhang Guofu inhaled too much smoke on the battlefield when he was young, and Zhang Guofu also inhaled a lot of coal in the coal mine, his lung membranes were unimaginably thick.
As his condition worsened, the hospital transferred Zhang Guofu's family to a large hospital in Beijing.
However, the cost in Beijing is not enough for Zhang Guofu's treatment even for several children.
Therefore, in desperation, Zhang Guofu’s daughter made a decision: to make her father’s identity public!
In order to save his father's life, Zhang Guofu's daughter Zhang Xiubo looked around for the old leaders of the 47th Army where her father was. After many inquiries, Zhang Xiubo finally found Mu Jianhua, Li Yuan and other old leaders. After
explained the whole story to them, several leaders had tears in their eyes.
They had been looking for Zhang Guofu for many years, but they did not expect that he had changed his name and lived in poverty for so many years.
The leaders immediately reported Zhang Guofu's situation to the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Political Department and the General Staff Headquarters, and immediately sent people to transfer Zhang Guofu to the 301 Hospital.
301 Hospital has the highest medical level in China, and the patients received by this hospital are all national leaders and generals with high honors. Ye Jianying and Hong Xuezhi have both received treatment here.
This shows how seriously the country attaches importance to Zhang Guofu's illness.
After being transferred to the hospital, Zhang Guofu received good treatment, and an endless stream of old comrades and leaders came to see him.
Mu Jianhua said emotionally in front of Zhang Guofu's hospital bed: "Guofu, we have been looking for you for 46 years!"
Zhang Guofu replied in a weak voice: "What are you looking for for me? "As long as the country is good and the people are good, it doesn't matter if you forget me."
"How can I forget you! Without the bloody battles of the soldiers, there would be no China today. Your achievements should be remembered by the people!" Li Yuan added.
Although Zhang Guofu had received the best treatment, his lung infection was still too severe.
Zhang Guofu left this world at 8:15 pm on July 11, 1998. He was 68 years old.
And "pay party dues" became Zhang Guofu's only last words.
Zhang Guofu's life was spent in his belief in the party and the country, and in the longing for his comrades. Perhaps this is the deepest tenderness in a soldier's heart.
