The novel coronavirus epidemic has affected people's hearts, and the Taiwan Red Letter Society has also extended a helping hand to the affected areas in mainland China.

The Taiwan Red Cross official website released news on January 30, stating that the Red Cross took the lead in donating 200,000 yuan to purchase and provide masks locally to vulnerable groups in the epidemic area to improve the independent epidemic prevention work in the epidemic area. In compliance with the regulations of the Taiwanese authorities, we urgently purchased and transported medical supplies such as protective clothing, protective goggles, and masks that were urgently needed in the mainland to the epidemic areas.

The Taiwan Red Cross also posted "Urgent Rescue! Everywhere for Everyone II Fundraising Project", providing donation contact information and a list of urgently needed medical supplies for the prevention and control of new coronavirus pneumonia in mainland China, and calling on all sectors of society to turn their love into donations.

Observer Network noticed that this is the third time in five days that the Taiwan Red Cross has released news about assisting the mainland in fighting the epidemic.

In a previous press release, the Taiwan Red Cross mentioned that many Taiwanese people expressed their donations through messages to donate isolation equipment, masks and other medical supplies for Wuhan medical staff. However, considering that the collection of supplies was slow and the air transportation was expensive, the Red Cross took the lead in donating 200,000 yuan.

The Taiwan Red Cross stated that actively assisting the areas most affected by the epidemic is the top priority for epidemic prevention and fight against the epidemic. With so many cross-strait exchanges, Taiwan can only be safe if everyone is safe.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Finance of the Taiwan authorities issued an emergency announcement on the evening of January 23, stating that in order to ensure the supply of masks in Taiwan, a one-month "export control" will begin on the 24th, including N95 masks and surgical masks.

Immediately afterwards, on January 27, the Taiwan authorities’ Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance decided that passengers leaving Taiwan during the Spring Festival should not carry more than 5 boxes of masks, that is, 250 masks. The Taiwanese authorities stated that this move was “mainly because they do not want anyone to take advantage of the opportunity to engage in mask purchasing business.”

According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency", as of January 28, 8 cases of pneumonia infected by the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Taiwan.
