Zhuge Liang in "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is known as the "Wolong". He is not only talented in literature and military strategy, but also very eloquent. Longzhong Thatched Cottage, Zhuge Liang discussed the world's three-thirds trend, and what he said Liu Bei agreed with him wholeheartedly. Later, Zhuge Liang went to Jiangdong, fought with the Confucian scholars, and urged Sun Quan not to surrender, which promoted the Sun-Liu alliance.
Zhuge Liang's eloquence is the best among the Three Kingdoms, and he even cursed people to death. This story comes from the 93rd chapter of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" " Jiang Boyu returns to Kongming and the Marquis of Wuxiang scolds Wang Lang to death":
Zhuge Liang conquered Jiang Wei in his first northern expedition and captured the three counties of Tianshui, Jicheng and Shanggui. His prestige was so great that people from far and near prefectures and counties surrendered in hope. Cao Wei Prince Consort Xiahou Mao fled to the Qiangzhong. They rectified their troops and horses, gathered all the soldiers in Hanzhong, and marched out of Qishan Mountain. When the troops came to the west of the Wei River, Chang'an was shocked.
At this time, Situ Wanglang was 76 years old. He volunteered to fight Zhuge Liang with Cao Zhen and others in Qishan. Wang Lang wanted to persuade Zhuge Liang to surrender in front of the battle, but was refuted by Zhuge Liang's words. He was so angry that he screamed and was killed by his horse. This war of words ended with Zhuge Liang's victory.
However, after reading the original text of the verbal battle between Zhuge Liang and Wang Lang, they felt deeply: What Wang Lang said makes sense! Now let me analyze for you, layman, why what Wang Lang said makes sense, and why he was scolded to death by Zhuge Liang.
The first argument put forward by Wang Lang is: Since the Second Emperor Huan Ling, the world has been divided by heroes, and thieves have emerged in droves. "The country is in danger of being overrun with eggs, and all living beings are in danger of falling." And Cao Cao (Emperor Taizu Wu) "swept the Liuhe and swept the eight wastelands" was his destiny.
What Wang Lang said does make sense. Since the Yellow Turban Rebellion, princes have risen up all over the world. Dong Zhuo came to Beijing to take power, moved the capital to Chang'an, and burned the eastern capital Luoyang to the ground. Later, Dong Zhuo was killed, and his subordinates rebelled and hijacked the emperor. Although Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty was an emperor in name only, he had neither troops nor territory. He could only hide in Tibet with a group of officials and ministers who were also in name only. In the end, he lived in Luoyang and was impoverished. The Eastern Han Dynasty was considered dead.
Although Cao Cao was a powerful minister, he was different from Wang Mang before him and Sima Yi after him. His troops, horses, and territory were all obtained through hard work, and were not taken from Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty. The relationship between Cao Cao and Emperor Xian of Han was more like a partnership: Cao Cao provided the money, and Emperor Xian of Han provided the brand. Although the nominal chairman of the company was Emperor Xian of Han, all the assets in the company belonged to Cao Cao. Even without Cao Cao, Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty would have no power. No prince in the world would listen to him, and he might starve to death one day without anyone caring about him.
The second argument put forward by Wang Lang is: Cao Wei's replacement of Liu Han was a concession, not a usurpation of the throne.
Wang Lang’s statement is difficult to refute. Although everyone knew that Cao Wei replaced Han, there was no problem from a procedural point of view. It was Emperor Xian of Han who took the initiative to abdicate. Even if Zhuge Liang had different opinions, Emperor Xian of Han was still alive and Emperor Xian of Han didn't say anything. How could it be Zhuge Liang's turn to be anxious?
Therefore, Wang Lang’s words do seem to make sense and are difficult to refute. If Zhuge Liang started a debate with Wang Lang about this, they would be confused and it would probably lead to low morale. So Zhuge Liang found another way and directly attacked Wang Lang from another angle.
Zhuge Liang pointed out Wang Lang's weakness as soon as he came up: "I thought that the old ministers of the Han Dynasty must have high opinions, but I didn't expect to make such despicable remarks!" Wang Lang's identity is a Hanchen, so there are some things that others can say, but Wang Lang cannot.
Zhuge Liang next pointed out, why did the Han Dynasty finally decline? It is because "above the temples, rotten trees serve as officials, and between the palaces and majesties, animals and beasts eat their salary; people with wolf-hearted and dog-like behavior are in power, and servile and servile people are in charge of government. As a result, the people of the country and the ruins are in ruins.""Zhuge Liang's implication is that Han ministers like you Wang Lang are rotten wood, beasts, wolf-hearted and dog-walking, servile and servile. It is because of your indifference that the country is overturned and all life is in ruins.
As Zhuge Liang said next, Wang Lang, as a Han minister, "reasonably supports the emperor and assists the country, and promotes Liu and Han. "How can we proudly say that Cao Wei and Han were "Ying Tianhe Ren, Fa Yao Zen Shun"? This hit Wang Lang's weakness, which can be described as a precise strike and a beheading action.
Then Zhuge Liang began to use vicious language to personally attack Wang Lang, saying, "He has sinned so deeply that heaven and earth will not tolerate him!" Everyone in the world is willing to eat your flesh! "He is said to be a flattering minister, so he can only hide and shrink his head, just trying to get food and clothing." ” He is said to be “a brilliant man!” Old thief with gray beard! "This hit Wang Lang in his heart, so he scolded him to death.
If you look at it from the perspective of a bystander, you will feel that Wang Lang was trying to argue with Zhuge Liang, but Zhuge Liang directly insulted Wang Lang, without any grace at all. But you must know that this is not a debate competition, but another battle - a propaganda war. Since it is a battle, the so-called "soldiers are deceitful", they need to use surprise to win, and use false and true. Wang Lang His remarks were like setting up a battle formation and wanting a decisive battle, but Zhuge Liang directly sent an assassin to kill the local general Wang Lang. You can say that Zhuge Liang's behavior was not aboveboard, but it was effective and he won with one blow.
And Wang Lang does have stains on his body. People at that time valued loyalty. As a Han official, you, Wang Lang, should be loyal to the Han Dynasty. You could not change your family to join Cao Wei, let alone persuade Zhuge Liang to surrender on behalf of Cao Wei. After all, Zhuge Liang represented Shu Han , and Shu Han regarded itself as the orthodox Han Dynasty and promoted the banner of reviving the Han Dynasty. Therefore, what Wang Lang said was unreasonable and unreasonable, and Zhuge Liang seized on his weakness. Even if Cao Pi came, he would have nothing to say, because Cao Pi could not deny loyalty.
What Wang Lang said is not unreasonable. If it were another person, it might not be a problem. For example, Cao Zhen never served as an official in the Han Dynasty. He has been following Cao Cao to conquer the world. He only needs to fight against the Cao Wei regime. Loyalty does not require allegiance to the Han Dynasty. This is called everyone's own master.
However, Wang Lang had been an official of the Han Dynasty. As a Han minister, he did not know his identity. He complacently tried to persuade Zhuge Liang to surrender, but in the end he could only bring shame on himself.
