In the golden autumn of October, Jianghuai The earth is busy with the autumn harvest. In Si County, Suzhou City, Anhui Province, a major grain-producing county, Sun Mingzhang, the first secretary of the Party branch of Xinji Village, Dazhuang Town, is busy guiding the masses to speed up the autumn harvest. Compared with the "Sanqiu" season of the previous two years, he is much more relaxed now: there are almost no cases where villagers come to him for comment when they quarrel. In the past, villagers cut too much of the boss's corn and the harvester damaged the west's land. Coordinating disputes like this was an important matter in Xinji Village during the "Three Summers" and "Three Autumn" seasons.
This is due to Xinji Village’s implementation of “one farm per household” in the autumn of 2020. Looking at the harvested farmland in front of him, villager Min Zhaoxin recognized this initiative very much. The family's six fields belonging to different plots in the village have become "large fields" concentrated in one place. Before the temperature dropped sharply on October 3, Min Zhaoxin invited the combine harvester . In less than an hour, the soybeans in the field were harvested. "If we put it in several fields that were scattered before, it would take three days to finish harvesting. Now that the autumn rain has fallen, we can plant wheat again immediately," Min Zhaoxin said.

In 1995, Min Zhaoxin’s family had about 7 acres of land. At that time, the village designated a certain amount of "good farmland" and "bad farmland" for each household based on the quality of the land. Since then, after more than 20 years of growing grain, Min Zhaoxin has increasingly felt that the efficiency is too low and there are too many chores: there are many plots of land, and he has to deal with six or seven households. During the harvest season, there are often non-stop noises;
In Xinji Village, there are many villagers who have the same idea as Min Zhaoxin.
"The 1,236 households in Xinji Village had 7,815 acres of land. At that time, they were divided into about 9,000 plots. The planting was too fragmented to achieve economies of scale." Sun Mingzhang said that in the autumn of 2020, the village's "two committees" respected the wishes of the farmers and based on the number of acres of land per household in the second round of contracting, the land was divided into pieces in each natural village. First, through the voluntary work of the masses, the land is leveled and water conservancy facilities such as culverts are repaired, so that "the land is not classified as good or bad." Then the village party members' meeting, the villagers' representative meeting and the villagers' group meeting are held to form a land adjustment plan recognized by the people, and individual issues are negotiated one by one and special solutions are provided. After about one month of adjustment, Xinji Village’s small fields have been transformed into large fields, and scattered fields have been transformed into whole fields.
It is the autumn harvest time again, and the agricultural machinery on the tractor road is busy in the fields. When the reporter visited Xinji Village a few days ago, he saw that the adjusted fields were square, and there were four boundary stakes and water channels on the edges of the fields. According to Sun Mingzhang, there are currently about 2,000 fields in the village.
After the land adjustment , large grain growers have also tasted the benefits. The reporter learned from the interview that Zhu Changcheng, a large householder, has transferred about 150 acres of cultivated land in the village to grow grain. Compared with the time when the land transfer was first carried out 8 years ago, the benefits have increased significantly, and grain planting is more promising. "Now that the land is neatly organized and the whole process of planting is mechanized, the labor cost alone is 30 to 50% less than before. The farmland infrastructure is perfect, and it can be drained during floods and irrigated during droughts, making farming more convenient." Zhu Changcheng said.
Due to the improvement of farming conditions and the increase in grain-growing efficiency, the circulation rent of some fields has also increased accordingly. Many agricultural social service organizations have taken the initiative to reduce prices and come to villages to do farm work. "It used to cost 15 yuan per mu to spray pesticides, but now it only costs 10 yuan, and drone plant protection is 2 yuan cheaper per mu," Sun Mingzhang said.
Xinji Village is the epitome of Si County 's promotion of "turning small fields into big fields" and "scattered fields into consolidated fields".
“The fields have become ‘larger’, laying the foundation for the next step to promote agricultural development and further promote the rural revitalization strategy.” Li Qingsong, deputy director of the Si County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, said that currently there are 257,000 acres of fields in 67 villages in this county From "small" to "large", from "scattered" to "integrated", on this basis, the local area has implemented projects such as crop variety improvement, single-variety contiguous planting and high-standard farmland management. The comprehensive production capacity of cultivated land has been significantly improved, and farmers' grain-growing benefits have also increased accordingly.
