Chen Lihong is a science and technology commissioner in Gulang County, Wuwei City, Gansu Province. Gulang is located at the eastern end of the Hexi Corridor of , located at the intersection of the three major plateaus of Qinghai-Tibet, Mongolia-Xinjiang and Loess. Recently, when a reporter from China News Service visited the Huanghuatan immigration area on site, he saw that thousands of greenhouses were neatly arranged, and Chen Lihong was explaining techniques to farmers to prevent and control various pests and diseases in the greenhouse where tomatoes were planted. When he was at the busiest time, he had to "transfer" 200 sheds a day to check the growth of crops one by one. Some farmers were not worried and must check in advance to prevent pests and diseases to reduce costs. Chen Lihong said that some old farmers with poor acceptance ability "have to teach repeatedly and be patient."
Chen Lihong recalled that in the winter of 2015, the meteorological department predicted heavy snow and low temperatures that lasted for a week. In order to prevent the tomatoes from freezing damage, he and the town and village cadres distributed the stove to each farmer in the face of the severe cold, and told the farmers to "pay attention to safety in making fires and constantly observe the lowest temperature." After a busy night, the next day he organized helping farmers remove snow and reminded farmers to pull up the curtains in time to increase the temperature.
During that cold wave, all the solar greenhouse crops guided by Chen Lihong safely survived the severe cold, and farmers did not suffer any losses. The average yield per shed reached 5940 kg, the output value of was 417,200 yuan, and the maximum output per shed reached 7660 kg, the output value of 23,000 yuan.
Meng Quanzu, who had transferred a total of 20 greenhouses from other farmers, said that "big tall guys" posted their contact information on many greenhouses and built a WeChat group of growers to promptly answer various technical problems encountered by farmers in vegetable cultivation and production, so that farmers can fully understand and master the pollution-free vegetable cultivation procedures, improve product quality, and increase income.
