Previously, Microsoft filed a lawsuit against Hon Hai, claiming that the consumer electronics manufacturer failed to comply with a patent licensing agreement since 2013. Microsoft accused Foxconn of failing to provide biannual royalty reports for certain products.
At a press conference held in Taipei today, Terry Gou pointedly pointed out that Microsoft's "conspiracy" in this move was to defraud the company of inappropriate patent protection fees. "I guarantee that Hon Hai will not suffer any losses from this. Customers will trust us more and we will protect the rights of our customers." Gou said that Hon Hai is unlikely to suffer losses because of Microsoft's lawsuit. Chi Yuyang, acting chairman and chief executive of FIH, also said at the press conference that Hon Hai Precision does not produce Android mobile phones; within the Hon Hai Group, all Android mobile phones are produced by FIH. And OEM brand customers are responsible for paying all fees related to intellectual property rights.
Terry Gou said that he only received the details of the lawsuit last night, and Microsoft actually released the news before Hon Hai received the indictment. In his view, it was normal for commercial companies to have lawsuits, but Microsoft's approach was obviously like "Xiang Zhuang is dancing with his sword and his intention is Pei Gong." Faced with Microsoft's sudden "fire", Terry Gou said that he almost stayed up all night, so he expressed his attitude on the matter through social networks early in the morning.
He pointed out that Microsoft mainly collects patent fees from Chinese mobile phone brands mainly Huawei , but now it is forcing OEMs. Hon Hai itself does not make the Android products involved in the lawsuit, "so there will never be any infringement matters."
Hon Hai is the world's largest mobile phone foundry, and Apple is its largest customer. The company's Foxconn is almost a household name in mainland China.
"This should be a war between American companies and American companies. It is a war between Microsoft and Google . We should not find foundries to 'sacrifice the flag.'"
