Taiwan Strait Network, November 28 ( Strait Herald Taiwan correspondent Lin Jingxian) Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian responded to inquiries on the evening of the 26th about the "nine-in-one" election results in Taiwan. We have noticed the results of this election. This result reflects the mainstream public opinion on the island of "seeking peace, seeking stability, and wanting to live a good life." We will continue to unite our Taiwan compatriots to jointly promote the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Strait relations, enhance the well-being of compatriots on both sides, resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" separatism and interference from external forces, and jointly create a bright future for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The 2022 "nine-in-one" election for grassroots public officials in Taiwan will be held on the 26th to elect county mayors, councilors, township chiefs, village chiefs, etc.

In addition to the fact that one of the candidates for mayor of Chiayi passed away before the election and the voting was postponed to December 18, according to the vote statistics of the Taiwan authorities' election authority, among the 21 county mayors that have been elected, the Chinese Kuomintang won 13 seats, the Democratic Progressive Party won 5 seats, the People's Party won 1 seat, and the other 2 seats were non-party members.

Among them, in the section of mayors of the "six capitals", the Chinese Kuomintang won more than half of the 4 seats. The current Mayor of New Taipei City, Hou Youyi, and Mayor of Taichung City, Lu Xiuyan, were successfully re-elected with high votes; the fourth generation of the Chiang family, Chiang Wanan, won Taipei City for the Kuomintang; and in Taoyuan City, where blue and green are closely tied, Kuomintang candidate Zhang Shanzheng won with more than 50% of the vote. Kaohsiung and Tainan were won by the current Democratic Progressive Party mayors Chen Qimai and Huang Weizhe.

Tsai Ing-wen announced her resignation as chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party that evening to show responsibility for the party's performance in Taiwan's "nine-in-one" election.

According to Xinhua News Agency , Taiwan also held a so-called "referendum on the constitutional amendment and restoration of 18-year-old citizenship" on the 26th. According to the voting results announced by the election department of the Taiwan authorities, the approval vote for the case failed to meet the passing threshold and ended in failure.

People's livelihood is uneasy, "anti-China" has failed, and the DPP has been seriously injured!

Public opinion on the island described the DPP's defeat as "a crushing defeat" and "the party's worst record in 36 years." In this regard, Taiwan's senior current affairs commentator Xie Zhichuan said in an interview with the reporter of the Herald in Taiwan that people's lives are not guaranteed, public resentment is skyrocketing, and the "anti-China and Taiwan card" has failed, severely damaging the Democratic Progressive Party. Taiwan Strait Herald reporter Lin Jingxian

Farmers and fishermen have to make a living, and the deep green votes are loose.

The Democratic Progressive Party lost all the elections in counties and cities north of Yunlin County and in eastern Taiwan.

Xie Zhichuan pointed out that Tainan City and Pingtung County are worth noting. These two places were considered "greener than blue" in the past. Before the election, various polls said there was a big gap between the blue and green candidates. However, the results of the vote count showed that the elections in the two places were very close. Although the Kuomintang did not win, it was enough to "scare the DPP."

"Local voters have gradually awakened!" Xie Zhichuan pointed out that the economic development of southern Taiwan is mainly based on agriculture, fishery and tourism industries, and the epidemic has already severely damaged people's livelihood. Since Tsai Ing-wen came to power, she has refused to recognize the " 1992 Consensus," which has led to further deterioration in cross-strait relations. Not only has the tourism industry lost mainland customers, but the mainland sales pipeline of pineapple , Lianwu , grouper has also been interrupted, and the DPP authorities have been unable to come up with good countermeasures.

"The livelihoods of farmers and fishermen in southern Taiwan have been brought back to their original point. Will they survive until they have nothing to eat?" Xie Zhichuan believes that this is an important reason for the change in the mentality of the people in the south.

Regardless of the people's livelihood, the DPP has accumulated hatred

Xie Zhichuan pointed out that the "first fire" of this election was the DPP authorities' mistakes in epidemic prevention policies. The Democratic Progressive Party blocked the vaccine in order to "anti-China" and protect the high-end, causing the hatred of former epidemic prevention commander Chen Shizhong to soar. Chen Shizhong encountered repeated protests from the public when he was sweeping the streets in Taipei to solicit votes, which was very harmful to the overall election situation of the green camp.

Xie Zhichuan pointed out that inflation has been serious in Taiwan in recent times, and soaring prices have placed a heavy burden on working people. In the past, the DPP has always attempted to rely on ideology to win over young people, but has ignored the fact that young people cannot find jobs, cannot afford children, cannot afford rent, and cannot afford rent, water and electricity at low wages. They are even deeply involved in the "Taiwan version of Cambodia " scam. "What Taiwanese people care about is whether their lives are good or not, but Tsai Ing-wen only has elections in her heart, which further aroused the anger of the people."

In the past, the DPP claimed to be wearing "straw sandals", but now she is used to eating and drinking. Taiwanese people want to live a good life, but their quality of life is not guaranteed, becoming the "last straw" that broke the DPP's back.

"Pro-US and Taiwan selling" was seen through, "anti-China card" failed

The DPP authorities' imbalanced extreme policies have deteriorated cross-strait relations and gradually pushed Taiwan to the brink of fierce war. Taiwanese people believe that the DPP’s provocation is to blame, which has caused its election situation to be severely damaged.

Xie Zhichuan pointed out that Taiwanese people know that the DPP’s “anti-China and Taiwan protection” is fake, and “pro-US and sell Taiwan” is real. Young people in Taiwan face possible extension of military service, and the DPP is provoking the mainland, and may be "tied" to the battlefield in the future. On the other hand, the DPP colluded with external forces to "seek independence" and not only allowed American politicians to sell arms, but even TSMC was about to be handed over to the United States.

Xie Zhichuan emphasized that Taiwanese people only want a peaceful and stable life and cannot see any benefits of the so-called "anti-China". If you want to play "anti-China card" again in future elections, the effect will also be weakened.
