Samsung Securities recommends Samsung dives its foundry business
Samsung said in its latest report that Samsung must diversify its foundry business portfolio of non-memory chips, and DRAM sales have declined for two consecutive quarters. Samsung's DRAM sales in the first quarter were $10.343 billion, down 9 million from the previous quarter. Sales in the third quarter of this year have declined for two consecutive quarters, with sales this year reaching US$11.53 billion. This is related to the global selling price of DRAM, which fell 9.5% and 8.1% in October and January last year, respectively. Samsung also noticed that Samsung must consider setting up OEM factories in the United States and Europe. In Samsung's electronic product production business, 38% and 37% of the products are supplied to Qualcomm and Samsung LSI. In terms of OEM, the relationship with consumers is very important and more localization may be required.
The editor commented on the foundry business of
non-memory chips, which means that Samsung has the voice of closing the foundry business of Samsung PC and mobile chips. Currently, Samsung not only manufactures NVIDIA graphics card chips, but also produces some chips of Qualcomm . At the same time, Samsung also has mature process production line OEM chips such as MCU, MPU, etc. in various industries. If these businesses are closed, this will inevitably bring huge changes to Samsung's industrial structure. At the same time, this will also have an impact on the international situation. The price of foundry chips may increase as a result. We believe Samsung just sends out this signal to stimulate cost prices rather than actually doing so.
Foxconn will inject 9.8 billion yuan into Transco
Foxconn's parent company Foun Hai has been vigorously developing its semiconductor industry in recent years, while China's Transco Group , one year after it announced bankruptcy, the current restructuring is coming to an end. In the new investment list of Unigroup, FII, the industrial FULL (FII) of FII, will invest 9.8 billion yuan. Hon Hai is expected to achieve greater development in the semiconductor industry through this measure. Some people speculate that if Hon Hai can invest in Unigroup, it will help Hon Hai make new breakthroughs in the semiconductor field. What Hon Hai lacks most is memory and communication chips. If can invest in Unigroup, it will play a great role in the development of its own semiconductor .
Editor's comments
After experiencing some series of storms and exposures, Unigroup Group has reorganized in a low-key manner. Now Hon Hai joins Unigroup, mainly paving the way for its own automotive electronics and semiconductor foundry business. If Hon Hai reaches a cooperation with Unigroup, it may be that Unigroup will provide design and Hon Hai will participate in manufacturing in the future. The business scope may range from chips to PCs to industrial electronics, consumer electronics products . However, as a company with a national background, will Unigroup accept Hon Hai’s olive branch?
ByteDance is recruiting a large number of chip engineers, or preparing for the independent research and development of chips
According to a reporter from the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily, ByteDance is currently recruiting a group of chip-related technicians, including chip front-end design, module performance analysis, verification, basic software and driver development, low-power design, chip security, etc. It is understood that the current byte chip group is divided into three major pieces, namely server chip, AI chip and video cloud chip, and the person in charge of the server chip is a senior employee of Qualcomm, North America. In addition, Byte also poached a group of people from Hisi , Huawei , Arm and other companies. It is reported that this may be laying the foundation for the chips developed by itself.

ByteDance may carry out chip research and development business in the future. The author estimates that chip production or foundry will be done. Byte will likely launch server chips based on ARM architecture and AI chips based on ARM or RISC-V architecture in the future. In the future, Byte may launch its own dedicated servers designed and produced by OEM to replace its own data center equipment and develop the international data center market. The author has repeatedly emphasized that the annual growth rate of data center business is considerable and the market is vast. If Bytes succeeds, it will launch a large number of businesses in data centers.
1 The core of the RISC-V architecture has been shipped 10 billion
July 13, Calista Redmond, president of RISC-V International, recently announced on Embedded World that the core of the RISC-V architecture has been shipped 10 billion
In contrast, ARM has dominated the past 17 years, with 10 billion, 100 billion and 200 billion in 2008 and 2016, respectively. The RISC-V architecture took only 12 years. According to Calista Redmond's prediction, there will be 80 billion cores of the RISC-V architecture in 2025. Although the development of RISC-V architecture is much faster than that of Arm architecture, 20 years ago, the development of RISC-V architecture was slower than that of Arm architecture.
Comment on the evolution of the chips with
RISC-V architecture are actually faster than X86 and ARM architecture chips due to their own architecture advantages. It can be foreseen that the shipment volume of RISC-V will further increase in the future. But it is probably still a little difficult to shake ARM. my country is a member of the association of RISC-V and has a guiding role in the development of RISC-V, so it will inevitably vigorously promote the domestic development of RISC-V. You can pay attention to it in the future.
or above are four semiconductor news today. I hope you like it.
