At that time, life was very hard and there was not enough food for many years. Adults and children often ate food mixed with leaves and weeds to satisfy their hunger. But no matter how hard life is, it cannot make underground party members suffer.
Xia Tingjuan took out a basket of flour she treasured at home and entertained underground party members. "A basket of flour was eaten in 3 days," she recalled.
After eating the food at home, the couple discussed and sold the 3 acres of mountain fields at home as revolutionary funds to support the revolutionary work.
In order to hide the safety of party members, superiors strictly prohibit party members from walking out of the house at will, and they must solve the problem of eating, drinking, defecating, urinating, and sleeping at their homes. Her husband Wang Yulong had to go out in the dark every day to carry out feces; her wife Xia Tingjuan cooked and washed clothes, busy at home and outside. Although she was very tired, she never complained. If the weather is good, she would use a bag to put everyone's dirty clothes and pick them up into remote forests, and wash and dry them with the water of the mountain stream. If it rains, leave your clothes in the room.
