How did the godfather of the Shanghai-Ban Qinggang spend his last life?
On May 1, 1949, on the eve of the People's Liberation Army's liberation of Shanghai, Du Yuesheng took his fourth concubine Yao Yulan, fifth concubine Meng Xiaodong, as well as a group of relatives, friends, followers and bodyguards to board the 10,000-ton ship of ZHAWA Company in the Netherlands, and left Shanghai where he made his fortune forever to Hong Kong.
. Du Yuesheng's choice to do things in his life also reflects the characteristics of his extremely thorough consideration and very appropriate measurement of pros and cons. At that time, both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were fighting for him. As an old friend of many years, Chiang Kai-shek certainly hoped that the leader of the Qing Gang would go to Taiwan to support him. For this reason, Chiang Kai-shek flew to Shanghai to meet Du Yuesheng before the liberation of Shanghai, and reminded Du of helping Chiang massacre Communists at the April 12th Middle School, so that Du would not stay in Shanghai and wait for the Communists to settle the matter. In order to show sincerity, Chiang Kai-shek also apologized for the Prince Jingguo's 48-year battle of tigers and arrested Du. At the same time, in order to unite Shanghai's democrats and stabilize the order in all aspects of Shanghai, our party also sent democratic figures such as Zhang Shizhao, who had a very good personal relationship with Du Yuesheng, to persuade them to stay and go without any blame.
In the end, Du Yuesheng made repeated decisions and decided not to go to Taiwan, nor to stay in Shanghai, but to go to Hong Kong.
His luxury house in Shanghai was sold to the US Consulate in Shanghai for 450,000 US dollars.
In Hong Kong, Du Yuesheng moved into apartment No. 18 Kennedy Road and became an apartment.
Hong Kong Du Yuesheng is no stranger. The Japanese army invaded China and captured Shanghai. Du Yuesheng was unwilling to join the Japanese and ran to Hong Kong. During his three years in Hong Kong, he used his influence to raise money and donate materials, and assisted Dai Li in the anti-traitor operation, which instead increased his political influence.
But this time, when Du Yuesheng came to Hong Kong again, he had lost his political stage. Hong Kong is just a temporary shelter. Du's loss was dumbfounded, which aggravated his physical decline that was not very good.
Hong Kong is not very satisfactory either. On the one hand, the expenses in all aspects are quite huge. Although Du’s family has a big fortune, he is also afraid of losing his fortune. Secondly, many brothers who have followed him for a long time have been in trouble after coming to Hong Kong. Of course, they have to find their elder brother to solve the problem. Du lost his influence in Hong Kong again, and it is quite energy to come forward to resolve the matter. Du Yuesheng had the idea of going to France for the whole family.
In 1950, Du Yuesheng was preparing to move his family to France. At this time, Meng Xiaodong, the fifth concubine who had followed him for many years, asked him, should I go to France as a maid or as a girlfriend?
Meng Xiaodong's famous Peking Opera actor, had a passionate marriage with Mei Lanfang. Later, he committed to Du Yuesheng, half to find a support and half to thank Du Yuesheng for his years of protection. Du's later years was basically taken care of by him, and Xiaodong took care of him meticulously. Photo: Du Yuesheng and Meng Xiaodong took a photo in Hong Kong in his later years
Du Yuesheng is worthy of being a man. He heard that the fifth concubine spoke, regardless of her weak identity, and then slapped the table and said that she would invite a drink and get married.
The next day, Du Yuesheng set up more than a dozen wedding tables and served as the last groom in Hong Kong.
I encountered trouble when I went to France. He wrote to Chiang Kai-shek, asking Chairman Chiang to get his family's passport to France. As a result, Chairman Chiang's reply was OK, but the price was clearly marked and he asked Boss Du to 150,000 US dollars.
There are also rumors that as a dignified chairman, it is impossible for him to care about these money, but Du offended Chairman Chiang. Because after Du arrived in Hong Kong, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party sent several people to persuade him to return to Shanghai and Taiwan. Once Du replied to Chairman Mao and Chairman Chiang, and revealed his idea of going home to retire. As a result, the person who sent the letter sent the wrong message and sent the letter to Chairman Mao to Chairman Chiang. After reading the letter, Chiang Kai-shek was furious, so he was embarrassed by Du's trip to France.
From this day, he has never left the hospital bed again. Famous doctors from Hong Kong such as Wu Zishen, Liang Baojian, Ding Jiwan, Wu Bizhang, Zhu Hegao have all diagnosed Du Yuesheng with illness, and their diagnosis results are roughly the same: "Mr. Du's essence, qi, and spirit are all missing, and I'm afraid it's not something that can work with medicine. "
Du Yuesheng knew that the deadline was coming, so he would tell the funeral after he woke up, and told him that after he died, he would buy him a coffin and wear him a long robe and jacket when burying. What he cared about was the place where the burial of the corpse was buried. He hoped that one day he could transport his corpse back to Shanghai and buried in his hometown of Takahashi.
In addition to this, he was responsible for the disposal of the legacy. In addition to sending a telegram to the United States to return the 100,000 US dollars that existed in Song Ziliang's place, he also stipulated his wives, concubines and children in each room. The proportion of inheritance distribution, and the distribution of inheritance is roughly as follows: each wife gets 10,000 US dollars, the son gets 10,000 US dollars, the unmarried daughter gets 6,000 US dollars, and the married daughter gets 4,000 US dollars. He wrote three wills. In addition to Du Yuesheng, there are witnesses Qian Xinzhi, Wu Kaixian, Gu Jiatang, Lu Jingshi, Xu Caicheng, etc. After the disposal of
, he made people burn down many other loan notes owed to him. He said that he wanted people to leave for two days, and the children and grandchildren should not ask.
The last time he woke up, he saw his younger brother Zhu Shishan beside him, but suddenly said, "Brother Shishan, I still have 100,000 in your place..." Zhu Shishan hurriedly said, "Mr. Du, it's Hong Kong dollar, not US dollars." Du Yuesheng took a few breaths and said slightly: "Of course it's Hong Kong dollar", and then fell asleep.
This was actually the last words of a generation of heroes. On August 16, Hong Lanyou, the Secretary-General of Chiang Kai-shek, rushed from Taiwan to Hong Kong Du Mansion on behalf of Chiang Kai-shek to "condolences" Du Yuesheng on behalf of Chiang Kai-shek. At this time, Du Yuesheng was no longer conscious, and Hong Lanyou shouted in his ear: "Mr. Du, the president is very caring for your illness, and I hope you will recover as soon as possible. "At this time, someone next to him accidentally touched Du Yuesheng's feet and found that Du Yuesheng's hands and feet were cold.
Chairman Jiang's condolences officially took away the life of a generation of hero Du Yuesheng.
His relatives, friends, follow his wish to sleep in the coffin during his lifetime, he searched for a nanmu coffin worth 15,000 Hong Kong dollars. In addition, according to the date of the Yin-Yang, he was buried on August 19. Du Yuesheng's coffin was sent to the Hong Kong Donghua Hospital Yizhuang for temporary storage.
In 1952, Du Yuesheng's fourth concubine helped Du Ling's coffin to Taiwan. On November 25, Chiang Kai-shek Group established the "Du Yuesheng Ling'an, including Wang Chonghui, Chen Cheng, He Yingqin, Wu Kaixian, Zheng Jiemin, Mao Renfeng and others. The House Committee housed Du Yuesheng's coffin west of the foothills of Dajian Mountain in Xizhi Town, Taipei County. The cemetery contains Chiang Kai-shek's inscription "Yijie Yuzhao". The cemetery originally had a archway, and Zhang Qun's inscription "Yue Wen Yongchang".
Du Yuesheng was unwilling to go to Taiwan during his lifetime, but after his death, he had no choice but to wander around the isolated island and could not realize his long-cherished wish of falling leaves returning to his roots. This is actually a great regret in his life.
Du Yuesheng has eight sons and three daughters, all of whom live overseas, has a good education, and no one inherits the will of his gangster brother.
