On September 30, Beijing time, New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Zion Williamson suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in the offseason. After undergoing surgery, he is expected to have to wait until the early stage of the season to recover from injury.
Zion revealed his injury situation in an interview with the team's media day. He said: "The injury is really bad, but it is also part of the sport. I think I was working too hard during training because I want to take greater responsibility for the team in the new season. But the injury happened unexpectedly, and fortunately my recovery is quite smooth now."
Pelicans new coach Willie Green also said: "I am delighted with Zion's recovery progress. We have been dealing with his injury problem before the start of the summer league. We only need to make a little adjustment now and wait for Zion to return from injury."
"Although Zion's return does not have a clear timetable, he expects to make a smooth comeback at the beginning of the season." Willie Green added.
Last season, Zion played 61 games for the Pelicans, and was able to contribute 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 33.2 minutes of playing time, with a shooting percentage of up to 61.1%.
