Early in the morning, 78-year-old Lu Shengmei was busy in the clinic of Jiaxian People's Hospital. She asked questions patiently, prescribed carefully, comforted the crying children, and reminded parents of various precautions... Although she is nearly 80 years old, as a pediatrician, Lu Shengmei's three free medical consultations a week are still unstoppable. "The patients need me, I am still healthy and can continue to serve them," she said. Because of being "needed", Lu Shengmei took root in northern Shaanxi and stayed for more than half a century.
In 1968, after graduating from university, Beijing girl Lu Shengmei came to Jia County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province to study medicine alone. Jiaxian is located at the junction of Loess Plateau and the Mu Usu Desert, with ravines and harsh environments. The local medical conditions are very backward, and the two rows of old caves with the wall peeling off are County Hospital . Seeing that the people were short of medical treatment and medicine, Lu Shengmei made a promise - "work for the Party for 50 years and serve the people of Jiaxian for 50 years."

On a snowy morning, Lu Shengmei followed her fellow villager to Cui's family, more than ten miles away from the city, for treatment. At that time, she was wearing plastic cotton shoes brought by Beijing, and she fell down after walking a few steps in the snow. The fellow villager couldn't bear it and advised Lu Shengmei to go back, saying that he would come to the hospital for treatment the next day. Lu Shengmei did not agree and continued to walk forward. On the downhill road near the village, she simply slid down halfway, and when she arrived at the patient's house, she almost turned into a clay figure.
"At that time, I just thought that there was a child waiting for me. Time is life, and I must move forward." Lu Shengmei said that after diagnosis, the child suffered from measles pneumonia. There were 5 children with similar symptoms in the village, and she rescued three children in a row. In order to prevent the disease from spreading, Lu Shengmei gathered the five sick children together with the help of the villagers. In less than a week, all the children were cured.

In 1983, Jiaxian People's Hospital established the first pediatric department, and Lu Shengmei became the first pediatric director. Over the years, she has not had the opportunity to go to a big city with better conditions, but she has never thought of leaving. She has been rooted in the Loess Plateau for 54 years, not only relieves the pain for many patients, but also strives to improve the local medical level.
In 1999, Lu Shengmei retired, and she still chose to provide free medical treatment for patients in Jiaxian. "The state has given me a retirement salary. In 1996, after graduating from the foundry major of the former Jinchuan Company Technical School, Pan Congming was assigned to work in the precious metal workshop of the second smelting plant of Jinchuan Company at that time, and was responsible for precious metal purification. Although the major was not right, Pan Congming did not retreat.
At that time, Pan Congming looked around and couldn't buy professional books. "If you don't have books, you can only learn on the spot with the master." He recorded the master's words one by one every day, recalled and copied them repeatedly at night, and unconsciously piled up the notebook more than one meter high.
"At that time, I didn't have much work, and I could finish it in four or five hours." Pan Congming said that as soon as he finished his work, he went to other positions to study. In just 3 months, he not only became familiar with the work in this position, but also became the "master" in the position.

Many new employees could not bear it at first, but as patents and papers were published one after another, they gradually understood Pan Congming's good intentions. It is Pan Congming and his employees' efforts to excel, and the purity of precious metal products of Jinchuan Group has reached 99.99% for 35 consecutive years. Among them, the most difficult precious metal rhodium to extract, the purification process has been streamlined from more than 40 to more than 10. The production cycle has dropped from the past 6 months to about 1.5 months, and the recycling rate has been greatly improved, truly achieving "eat dry and squeezed all".
Nowadays, Pan Congming focuses on the comprehensive recycling of precious metals in secondary resources. "Mineral resources are ultimately limited. If precious metals in scrapped automobiles, electronic products, petroleum catalysts and other resources are recovered, the resource shortage can be alleviated." Pan Congming said that although these resources are complex, he will still lead the team to continue to overcome difficulties.

"I have been engaged in the research on nanopore materials of molecular sieve. Molecular sieve is a material used to screen different molecules and is widely used in industrial catalysis, adsorption separation, and ion exchange fields," said Yu Jihong. In order to achieve the directional synthesis of molecular sieves, she led the team to work hard and took the lead in creating a molecular sieve synthesis database in the world by looking up massive literature. On this basis, she proposed a strategy of guiding the directional synthesis of molecular sieve by combining theoretical simulation, data mining and high-throughput experiments in the international arena, achieving a zero breakthrough in the creation of new topological structure types of molecular sieve in my country. In 2016, she led the team to discover the crystallization mechanism of hydroxyl radicals accelerating molecular sieve nucleation for the first time internationally, opening up a new path for the efficient and green synthesis of molecular sieve materials.
Although many achievements have been made, Yu Jihong did not stop to continue to search. She told the students in practice that they should not follow the trend in chasing hot spots. As long as they have a strong foundation and continue to intersect subjects, they can produce new original results. "We try to break through the original understanding of molecular sieve materials through interdisciplinary cross-disciplinary research, and greatly expand the application of molecular sieve to energy storage, optoelectronics, sensing and other fields." said Wang Tianshuang, a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Chemistry, Jilin University.
