On October 16, in the "Binjiang Happiness Post" next to the Qinjiang Plank Road in the Binjiang area of Wushan District, Nantong, Jiangsu Province, Wu Zhan and more than 50 cadres and masses watched the opening meeting of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. They said with deep emotion: "The huge changes in Binjiang in Nantong are the best proof!"
Wu Zhan, a 66-year-old party member, is a resident of Linjiang Home, Langshan Town, Chongchuan District, Nantong City. He has lived next to Yangtze River since he was a child.
"For ten years, the environment here has changed so much! Not to mention anything else, our old childhood friend - 'Smiling Angel' 湾 湾 has returned and has become the 'permanent residents' of Nantong !" When Wu Zhan mentioned this topic, he had endless things to say.
Nantong Wushan District Riverside Area, you can see mountains and water. Five mountains such as Huangnishan , Ma'anshan, Langshan , Jianshan , Junshan , etc. are standing by the river, with a 14-kilometer coastline along the river. It is an important ecological hinterland in the Nantong section of the Yangtze River and an important water source for urban development.
At one time, there were many cranes in the ports and the docks were in large numbers. Logistics yards, cotton weaving factories, chemical factories, cement factories, etc. are all spread along the river. Although the income of villagers along the river has increased, the pollution of wastewater, noise, dust, and odor caused by industrialization has driven away the common porpoises of Wu Zhan's childhood, which also makes the villagers feel helpless.
"Together to protect and not engage in large-scale development" is the general tone and prerequisite set by General Secretary Xi Jinping for the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Nantong firmly establishes the concept of " green waters and green mountains are gold and silver mountains", and makes up its mind to return the river to the people, optimize the layout of the Yangtze River coastline, and build a "urban ecological green lung".
Taking the ecological restoration work of Wushan and the riverside areas as the entry point, Nantong launched a tough battle to prevent and control pollution in key areas: more than 20 special rectification actions such as ship pollution, illegal docks and drinking water source environmental protection; hazardous chemical terminals, sulfur docks, and container terminals are all withdrawn, adjust the freight function of ports along the route, and repair the riverside coastline...
Now, the former "industrial belt" along the river in Nantong has transformed into a "science and technology innovation belt" and "sightseeing belt", achieving transformation and upgrading. The riverside ecological corridor has become the "urban living room" in Nantong, and the riverside flower sea has become a new place for citizens to "check in".
"It's here. A few days ago, I saw three porpoises and played for nearly an hour and a half." Standing on the riverside trail, Wu Zhan said that the photography enthusiasts around him rushed to press the shutter.
Nantong Environmental Monitoring Center data shows that since the beginning of this year, the center has observed and recorded more than 60 finless porpoises in Nantong, with a total of more than 180 firsts.
Jiang Jianhua, a reporter from Nantong Daily, who has always paid attention to ecological themes, often photographs finless porpoises and birds by the river. He said: "The frequent appearance of finless porpoises means that the water ecological environment of the Yangtze River is getting better and better. Recently, I have observed finless porpoises for several consecutive days. I am naturally happy to see them, but I am not particularly excited, just like meeting old friends normally."

A good ecological environment is the most universal welfare for people's livelihood. On November 12, 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected the Binjiang area of Wushan District, Nantong, had cordial conversations with the people nearby, praising the once dirty and messy environment for vicissitudes and changes, and became a riverside ecological park where people linger. Wu Zhan, who was passing by, stopped and listened, applauding excitedly.
The green mountains are not ink for thousands of years, and the green water is not stringed for thousands of years. Here the sky is bluer, the mountains are greener, and the water is clearer. Birds fly on the trees, and the sea of flowers blooms. The river porpoises are common in the river. Citizens run and practice, sing and dancing, and have fun on the riverside... Wu Zhan said: "Living in a beautiful environment, people's sense of gain, happiness and security have been enhanced!"
