Gift Taiwan giant panda " Tuantuan " was reported today (23rd) that it was suspected of epilepsy symptoms and poor appetite at the end of August. It was detected that there was a local liquefaction and necrotic lesions in the left cerebral hemisphere and similar lesions in the right cerebral hemisphere. It is still waiting for other test results to be released. In response to this, Taipei Mayor Ke Wenzhe posted a message on Facebook to wish Tuantuan a quick recovery, and said that the medical team of Taipei zoo will do their best to give Tuantuan the best treatment.
According to Taiwan media "ETtoday News Cloud", Ko Wen-je said that in mid-to-late August this year, the nurseryman found that Tuantuan's behavior was different from usual and his appetite was not very good. After checking the surveillance image, he found that Tuantuan was suspected to have had epilepsy a month ago. After examination by veterinarians in the park and sent to the Animal Hospital affiliated to NTU for brain MRI, it was found that Tuantuan had local liquefaction and necrotic lesions in the left cerebral hemisphere, and similar lesions in the right cerebral hemisphere, which may be the cause of its epilepsy seizure . We are still waiting for other test results to clarify the cause.
Ke Wenzhe said that the weather turned colder after September, so the pancakes could go to the outdoor area to get closer to everyone. However, before further inspection is released, Tuantuan may not go to the outdoor area, and will try to avoid giving Tuantuan a chance to climb high, so as to avoid sudden epilepsy and falling injuries. As for whether Tuantuan's care space needs to be changed, Taipei City Zoo will also evaluate its overall based on its physical condition.
Ke Wenzhe said that I believe this news makes many people feel distressed and reluctant. Please bless Tuantuan. Thank you for your selfless and warm company in the past. Please rest assured that the Taipei Zoo medical team at Taipei City Zoo will definitely do their best to give Tuantuan the best treatment.
Taipei Zoo said that on September 18, the park sent Tuantuan to the Animal Hospital affiliated to NTU for examination, and took cerebrospinal fluid for subsequent analysis and testing. The zoo said that Tuantuan had two epilepsy, which took about 1-2 minutes and was in a mild condition. At present, Tuantuan would take anti-epileptic drugs, which would give Tuantuan the best medical treatment. The real cause of the disease needs to be clarified by the test results.
Zoo said that Tuantuan, a 18-year-old, is about 50-60 years old, and has started to have unstable appetite in mid-to-late August, and has also had symptoms of suspected epilepsy for 3 minutes. After MRI MRI examination, it was found that it had local liquefaction necrotic lesions in its left cerebral hemisphere, and similar situations in its right cerebral hemisphere. At present, we need to wait for the results of cerebrospinal liquefaction and clarify the exact condition. At present, the park also contacted mainland experts online to discuss Tuantuan's condition treatment.
Zoo also mentioned that Tuantuan was resting in the backcourt after anesthesia. His appetite and physical condition have recovered well, but there is still a gap from the normal period, and his overall physical fitness is stable. In the future, you will see the inspection report and make a rolling arrangement, "Don't limit it just because it gets sick." The other three bears are currently under management, while Tuantuan is resting in the backcourt and will not meet the public for the time being. (Lin Jingxian/editor)
