Wang Wenbin said that since the Japanese government made the above-mentioned wrong decision in April last year, the doubts and opposition of the international community and the people in Japan have not stopped. All parties are generally concerned about the impact of Japan's discharge of nuclear-polluted water into the ocean that may cause to the marine environment, public health and other impacts on the legitimacy of the nuclear-polluted water discharge plan, the reliability of Japanese data, the effectiveness of purification devices, and the uncertainty of environmental impacts. The International Atomic Energy Agency established a technical working group to conduct field inspections and evaluations in Japan for two days. So far, no concluding opinions were drawn on the Japanese sea discharge plan. At the same time, many clarification requirements and improvement opinions were put forward. China and Russia have proposed a joint technical issue list to Japan, but have not received any feedback from Japan. Not long ago, the Pacific Island Forum Leaders' Meeting and the Foreign Ministers' Meeting also expressed serious concerns on related issues.
Wang Wenbin introduced that it is regrettable that Japan has always turned a deaf ear to the legitimate concerns and reasonable demands of the international community and the domestic people. Not only did it not conduct full and meaningful consultations with stakeholders and relevant international institutions, it has been deliberately promoting the construction of the sea-disk pipeline and the sea-disk plan approval work. The Japanese side's practice of disregarding concerns among all parties and attempting to create established facts is extremely irresponsible. We firmly oppose this.
Wang Wenbin said that the disposal of Fukushima nuclear polluted water is related to the global marine environment and the public health of countries around the Pacific, and is by no means a private matter for Japan. China once again urges Japan to effectively fulfill its international obligations, dispose of nuclear polluted water in a scientific, open, transparent and safe manner, and stop pushing the sea discharge plan. Japan shall not initiate nuclear-polluted discharge of water from the sea without authorization until full consultation and agreement is reached with stakeholders and relevant international agencies. If the Japanese side insists on putting its own selfish interests above the international public interests and insists on taking a dangerous step, it will definitely pay the price for its irresponsible behavior and leave historical stains.
