Steam has launched a new search function, which is more powerful and easier to use. It includes a new filtering function. Steam Lab
The changes to search today are actually part of Steam Labs, and we try out upcoming changes through this project and collect feedback to see if it is useful.
By developing new features in the lab, we can do more experiments without affecting any Steam users. This means we can try ways that may not work, or we can receive user feedback earlier during development. Everyone uses Steam differently, so the feedback we receive at Steam Labs helps us serve a wider audience.
Our search experiment began with the exploration of the new sorting algorithm , but later based on user feedback, the scope of the experiment expanded, covering a number of optimization improvements launched today. While large features are often the focus, small tweaks are also essential for a smoother user experience.
So what exactly is search?
Steam Search can do more than just search for games. This is a powerful tool that drives a number of easy-to-selling features, including hot-selling items and special offers pages. The features launched today are available where search tools are used throughout the store.
narrows the scope based on price and special offers
search now supports setting the highest price, and you can also filter and display only special offers. If you are looking for games within your budget, or want to choose only the right one during the sale, this control can help you find the game you like.
Include or exclude
We have also introduced a new way to use tags to find your favorite games. Tags now show the number of results that will be returned in advance, making it easier for you to view games with the highest relevance to your search. In response to everyone's needs, you can now exclude tags from your searches. If you are a fan of survival games but are not interested in horror or zombie games, you can search for your tastes right now.
Our "Sort by Relevance" algorithm will also give you more weight to the tags you choose, meaning you can see more relevant results in the front, making it easier to find engaging games, whether the game is popular or not.
Hidden games you already know
We have heard everyone say that when browsing search results, it contains a lot of games you already know, which is annoying. Our new filtering feature allows you to hide games that have been ignored, added to wishlists, or are already in the library. Your search results are not reloaded when these controls are enabled or disabled, and their settings are retained when performing different searches.
Exclude VR exclusive game
search is entirely to find the game you want. If you do not own the VR head-mounted monitor , then seeing VR-exclusive games may not be of interest to you. These games can now be excluded from your search, but you can still see games that support VR but can be played without a head-mounted monitor.
Unlimited scrolling
We now automatically load more results when you scroll your mouse, you no longer need to manually click to turn the page. Your search results and where it is in the search when you click on any of them will be remembered, and when you use the browser's return button, it will return to where it is on the search page.
For those who prefer older paging views, unlimited scrolling can be configured through your own store preferences.
Find games in your language
If you are searching in a non-English language, your language will be the first to be displayed in the language filter control, and the control will move to the location near the top of the search page.
