As early as 2020, Tesla said that a new battery called "4680" could change the standards of the smart tram industry. Although the facelifted battery is still in small-scale mass production until now, it has become a new goal that major automakers are catching up. Sandy Monroe, an engineer at Ford Motor Company who led the test, believes that the 4680 battery does have an unprecedented battery design, but once it is damaged, the repair price will be very high.

In fact, the 4680 battery adopts a CTC battery structure in its design. This technology of directly grouping the battery cells into a battery pack is difficult to repair itself. In addition, Tesla uses a large amount of polyurethane glue to increase the stress and protect the battery. The repair process will also increase accordingly, and the maintenance cost may be higher than changing to a new battery directly. However, in the maintenance of smart trams, many car owners have long said that the cost is too high and unacceptable. Earlier, a vehicle that landed at 340,000 yuan was hit by the hot search by the 4S store after being sent for repair. Although the official said that the repair price was not true, it did not provide a real repair quotation. Judging from this clue, it would at least not be too cheap, but it is still a bit exaggerated to be higher than the landing price of this car. Coincidentally, Tesla was boycotted by a blogger because the price of replacing batteries reached nearly half of the price of a new car, and even burned the "power-free" Model S on the live broadcast.

It has to be said that the 4680 battery and CTC battery structure are one of the best solutions under the current technological development, but at the same time, due to the high density and integration, the maintenance cost has been increased, which is almost inbalanced. However, most industry insiders are optimistic about this development route, just like smartphones. Even if the battery has become undetachable, the maintenance cost is gradually reduced to a range acceptable to users as it continues to develop. I believe that the same is true for smart trams.
