[Original by Dongchedi Industry] Recently, information from overseas social media shows that next year, the two models of Tesla , Model 3 and Model Y may usher in a major upgrade in battery. Some of the models may use 4680 batteries, and some models use BYD blade batteries.
Tesla Model Y
Specifically, Tesla rear-wheel drive version of Model 3 and Model Y will add two new types of batteries, including BYD's lithium iron phosphate blade battery with a battery capacity of 70 kilowatt-hours; while the dual-motor all-wheel drive and high-performance versions of Model 3 and Model Y will use 4680 batteries.
Judging from the latest developments at present, this news is not groundless.
Previously, in June, BYD Group executive vice president and director of Automotive Engineering Research Institute Lian Yubo admitted in an interview with CGTN that BYD will provide Tesla with batteries, but did not disclose the specific plan.
By August, there was another news that the blade batteries supplied by BYD had been delivered to the Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany; in response, a BYD person responded that BYD supplied blade batteries to Tesla and shipped them to Europe.
In addition, as an important innovative achievement of Tesla in the battery technology level, 4680 batteries have begun to move towards mass production. In fact, the first Tesla Model Ys loaded with 4680 battery packs have been launched early this year.
4680 battery
As for when 4680 batteries will go to mass production, Tesla initially gave a timeline before the end of 2022. Later, some experts said that Tesla may have to delay the mass production of 4680 batteries until 2023; but in any case, for Tesla, the mass production and use of 4680 batteries may be just a matter of time.
