Recently, MediaTek released a new SoC - Dimensity 1080. Judging from its naming, it is naturally aimed at the mid-range market. According to the upgrade range, Dimensity 1080 is an upgraded model of Dimensity 920. The previous work Dimensity 920 was used by Redmi Note 11 Pro, with a price of 1,500-2,000 yuan, and is in line with Snapdragon 778G.
MediaTek Dimensity 1080 adopts TSMC's 6nm process, the CPU part is 2 x A78 2.6GHz large core, 6 x A55 2GHz small core, and the GPU is Mali-G68. Other parts support LPDDR5+UFS 3.1, 120Hz FHD+ screen. Shooting supports up to 200 million pixels + 4K HDR video recording. At the same time, there are also Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and other blessings.
In general, Dimensity 1080 will be more inclined toward low power consumption and long battery life. It is reported that its engineering machine score is 520,000 points, and the new phone equipped with Dimensity 1080 is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022. Combined with other related revelations, the Redmi Note 12 series and Honor 80 have the chance to be equipped with Dimensity 1080. Among them, the first Redmi Note 12 series equipped with Dimensity 1080 supports 67W fast charging, and the general manager of Redmi Lu Weibing has also begun preheating recently. It is expected that the Redmi Note 12 series will be released as a model to increase sales of Double 11.
Of course, it is far from enough to focus on the mid-range and mid-to-high-end fields. This year, the performance of the Dimensity 9000 series chips has improved slightly in the high-end field. MediaTek will take advantage of the victory and pursue it in the future, just like Qualcomm , it will release next year's flagship SoC in advance (as earlier than last year). According to official disclosure, Dimensity's new flagship SoC will introduce MediaTek's AI image semantic segmentation technology in flagship TVs in AI processing; at the same time, there will also be the concept of a new 5G dual-pass, and will support Wi-Fi 7 in the first batch. It is rumored that the vivo X90 series may launch this new flagship SoC first. Can it be closer to Snapdragon ? We might as well wait and see.
Comment: Dimensity 8000 series can be said to be a hit, but it turns out that the sequels of this part of the models will be turned to the embrace of Snapdragon 8+ in the year, so MediaTek still feels under a lot of pressure.
