IT Home reported on September 30 that as the tight supply and demand of semiconductor has been alleviated, upstream manufacturers in the semiconductor industry have begun to cut orders, and some car companies have tried to bargain with TSMC. In addition to small and medium-sized businesses, it has been reported recently that the top ten customers including Qualcomm , MediaTek , NVIDIA and AMD negotiated with TSMC, hoping to reduce and delay orders.
Therefore, there are frequent reports from the outside world that TSMC has lost. According to the Electronic Times, industry sources revealed that while multiple customers have already cut orders for next year, TSMC is still planning to stick to its 2023 price increase plan, with prices expected to rise by about 6%.
Sources said that in addition to Apple , TSMC customers can postpone orders originally scheduled to be fulfilled next year, but even for large-scale orders in 2023, TSMC has no intention of reducing prices or offering discounts.
"Other major customers of TSMC, including AMD, MediaTek, Nvidia and Qualcomm, have begun negotiations with TSMC on modifying orders next year or postponing delivery," the source said.
IT Home learned that sources pointed out that despite the reduction in overall orders in 2023, TSMC's 22/28nm and 5nm production lines are still full.
In addition, compared with the lack of Samsung's 3nm interest, TSMC has also obtained a 3nm order commitment from Apple and Intel , and is expected to start mass production next year. Currently, the two factories also have plans to increase volume. AMD, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Broadcom , etc. need to wait until 2024 to enter the 3nm era.
The most important thing is that TSMC has not yet made any concessions in OEM quotation, nor has it resumed its previous sales discount business model. TSMC can accept customers to reduce orders or delay the delivery of goods within appropriate scope, but everything will follow the contract and will not absorb any losses on their own.
