People's Daily, Hong Kong, May 11 (Shen Jingjie) Director of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Yau Tenghua, announced the proposal for the SAR government to support the Ocean Park on the afternoon of the 11th. Hong Kong Lingcheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Ocean Park, and Liu Mingwei, Vice Chairman, attended the meeting together.

Yau Tenghua said that Ocean Park is facing an imminent financial challenge and may face bankruptcy if it does not receive any funding assistance. After discussion with the park, the SAR government will apply for an appropriation of approximately HK$5.4 billion from the Financial Committee of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to help the park overcome difficulties.

Au Tenghua pointed out that due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the Ocean Park has been temporarily closed since the second day of the Lunar New Year at the end of January and has not been able to reopen so far. Ocean Park has never encountered such a huge challenge in its operation and development, and its cash flow can only be maintained until the end of June. He said that the approximate HK$5.4 billion in funding applied to the Finance Committee will be used to assist the park in continuing operations for 12 months and redetermine its future development strategy during this period, and approximately RMB 3 billion will be used to repay the commercial loans that the park has expired and must repay.

Au Tenghua mentioned that the SAR government will use this funding to apply to extend the time limit for the park to repay the funds to the SAR government, hoping to help the Ocean Park solve the imminent financial challenges.
