This is the story of the 763rd real person we tell
I am Douya Uncle
(I am 56 years old now, and I haven’t stopped yet and am preparing to start a new career in the mainland)
My father joined the army during the Anti-Japanese War and came to Taiwan in 1954. I was born in a big family with three older brothers and one older sister.
My father is a traditional scholar who provides traditional Confucian education to us. His calligraphy is very good, and his running script is written in particular wild style. I remember when I was a child, my father taught us how to train the copybook of Qianfeng . Qian Feng's calligraphy is very strange, but his father highly praised it and likes us to copy his "Song of Righteousness".
Under my father's words and deeds, we have been influenced by Chinese traditional culture since we were young.
When my father was young, he wrote children's books on history and compiled some short story books like " Cao Chong called ", which were later released in Hong Kong.
When I was a child, my brother and sister, the most I heard was the story of my hometown told by my father, which felt very magical.
(There are the few calligraphy works left by my father, and many large works were given away or taken away by others)
My father said that there was an ancient well in the village in my hometown, and a dragon was locked with iron chains. Standing next to the ancient well in the middle of the night, you could hear the sound of iron chains rolling. My father said this story many times and we love listening to it.
My father also told us that my hometown has unique natural environment, good water quality, and rice grows very well, especially red rice , which is particularly fragrant and delicious. But I have never seen red rice in Taiwan, so we think my father must be joking. Many years later, went to the mainland several times, but because of one thing or another, I couldn’t return to my hometown in Jiangxi to see the red rice carefully.
Not long ago, a Taiwanese friend who came to the mainland excitedly told me that he had eaten red rice, which was really delicious. I asked her to return to Taiwan next time and help me bring a pack back.
Although my father is a scholar, he can also play Shaolin Nanquan, and he will play one set of things and look decent. When we were young, our five children would be urged to get up every weekend by our father, and we would be rushing to get up in the yard and stole the horse and punched each other.
But we always want to go out to play, and we find various reasons not to practice. Later, when I checked it online, I found out that my father was actually playing the authentic Shaolin Southern Fist. I regretted not studying it seriously at that time.
(I was speaking at the local chamber of commerce in the United States)
My father gave us a traditional Chinese education. He always reminded us that as a Chinese, we must "establish morality", "make meritorious service" and "make words" throughout our lives. Every time I say these six words, his expression is solemn, his eyes are bright and he looks into the distance, which makes me unable to help but expose my life and remember it in my heart from now on.
"Everything is inferior, only reading is high" is what my father often says and what we expect from us. However, his requirements are not strict, and even if he does not do well in one exam, he will not criticize or scold.
When I was a student, although I was not the kind of top student in other people's family, I was relaxed and happy to study and my grades were stable at the upper and higher levels. The educational concept of father allowing his children to develop freely has a great impact on my later education work.
At that time, I knew very little information about the mainland and had no chance to go to the mainland.
I studied journalism while I was in college in Taiwan. The internship class was arranged to go to radio and television stations to participate in the recording and production of the program.
The first time I saw so many machines, I was very excited. When operating the equipment, the director asked the camera to push forward. I made a mistake in nervousness and pushed the lens push rod forward. I was called an "idiot" and a "stupid", which made me blush and embarrassed.
(First riding a horse in the United States)
When I was young, I used to envy those jobs of sitting in the air-conditioned room, cutting movies and writing things. Unexpectedly, I went abroad to study and pursue careers traveling around the world. I didn't expect that now I am in my 50s and haven't stopped and prepared to start a new career in the mainland.
In Taiwan, boys will be arranged to serve in the military twice. The first time I went to the training center for two months in my second year of college, and the second time I entered the barracks for one year and ten months after graduating from college. The total total was two years of service. I got married shortly after I returned from military service.
My wife and I met in high school, so our relationship is like friends who can talk about everything. I remember one summer vacation, I was talking on phone with her at home. My sister read the bill with extremely high calls and immediately took NT$4 to the bank and exchanged a large bag of coins and stuffed it to me, asking me to go to the public telephone booth downstairs to call.
My wife is an interior designer. As an art girl, she is very active and good at "creating atmosphere". I remember that during my military service, my wife was still a girlfriend at that time. Once I visited me, it actually caused a sensation in the entire barracks.
(My wife’s painting looks very much like we are about to move our family to the mainland)
When I was in the training center in my sophomore year, I would develop a camp one weekend every month to let my family and friends come in to visit. That time, my "future wife" brought them more than 20 girls in the class of art university to see me. For a moment, the entire training center called friends and laughed, which made all the boys very envious.
and so later, during that time I went to the cafeteria for dinner and training in the playground. Wherever I went, everyone talked about it as soon as they saw me: "Here, it's this kid. He has a tall girlfriend and brought more than 20 beauties to see him. It's so awesome!" I suddenly became the focus and felt unique in appearance.
Another time in the barracks, she also brought my mother to see me, which made me both surprised and heartwarming.
After returning from military service, we got married naturally in 1992. The wedding ceremony is not romantic, it is carried out according to traditional rules.
comes to propose marriage, discusses wedding matters with elders, prepares materials, conducts processes, etc., and all are carefully completed step by step. However, we did not give the bride gift, and there were few bride gifts in Taiwan. Even if it was collected from the bride gifts, it would be returned to the man later.
My marriage was all handled by my mother and her in-laws. My father had passed away at that time. My father, who had been unwilling to cause trouble for others all his life, suffered a sudden stroke of in in 1989 and was sent to the hospital and left shortly afterwards.
(I am with the students)
I clearly remember the last time our family had a dinner together.
It was an ordinary day, neither a weekend nor any festival. My brother and sister and I were back. My sister and my mother were chefs, and my father also cooked a dish and drank wine. It was his favorite Shaoxing wine . He said: "Shaoxing wine is the favorite wine that cousins in Jiangxi like to drink."
My father "disliked" Taiwan too light and not fragrant. He likes heavy oil, eats spicy food, and likes big fish and meat. There is a dish called steamed pork . Every time he and his fellow countrymen gather together, there will be a steamed pork minced pork on the table.
My father also "looks upon" the Korean way of eating Taiwanese rice cakes and kimchi. He likes how to eat them in his hometown and eat them after steaming them softly and dipping them in white sugar. He felt that was the correct "how to open rice cakes" and the taste of his hometown.
Writer Acheng once said: "The so-called homesickness is actually the emotions generated by eating food from a foreign land."
people's stomachs have memory functions. Those foods with hometown DNA leave a deep imprint in their taste buds, precipitate and ferment over the years, turn into homesickness, and accompany each other for a lifetime.

Shortly after marriage, I went to the United States to study. I considered, decided and handled the matter of studying abroad from beginning to end. My mother did not intervene and did not put forward any opinions or suggestions.
I applied to the University of Texas, and my elective was majoring in economics. After studying for master's and doctoral studies, I have been engaged in economic research and published several books related to economics, which can be regarded as sharing my years of accumulation with industry partners.
Since my college years, my father has helped me develop the habit of writing letters from home. In addition to writing for parents, I also wrote for my brothers and sisters, sharing my gains and experiences in study and life with my family.
I remember that in my first letter from home when I went abroad, it tells the deep memory of life when I parted at the airport. I also feel particularly nervous when I first arrived at school because I was not very good at English.
I remember my father once repeatedly told me in his letter home: "Studying outside, taking good care of your body is the first priority. Don't forget to always understand your own virtue. The most important thing is to 'not cause trouble for others'."
Later, I gradually developed the habit of thinking and solving problems independently. This habit later continued to my daughter, which made me feel very relieved.
(In the autumn of 2018, my wife and daughter were traveling in Qingdao, Shandong)
During my study abroad, in addition to the differences in language and living habits, there was also the impact of Chinese and Western cultures. When I was in college, I didn’t have too strict requirements on reading a few books, submitting homework, and writing a report.
However, in American schools, up to 25 reading books were issued at once, and some subjects even opened up to 40 books. The time required to deliver the reading report was very short, which made me a little difficult.
In addition, I also found that Americans are not as lazy and leisurely as we imagined. Many American classmates are quite hardworking, and I am forced to work hard as I am leisurely by nature. is away from home, which means China and cannot be shamed.
The years I studied abroad did not have any holidays for me. In order to save money, I only returned to Taiwan once every two years. Sometimes I work outside the school and most of the time I work in the school’s laboratory, so I save money on accommodation, and the school will pay a meager salary.
I remember that I once did a research report on vending machines at that time. At that time, there were very few vending machines in Taiwan, and the research process was quite interesting and rewarding.
Unfortunately, time flies and years flies, and all my feelings cannot be shared with my father. After becoming a father, I particularly value every moment of my daughter's growth.
(In 2014, I went to Beijing and photographed a 528-meter-high tall building near China Zun)
The wife gave birth to a daughter at the age of 36, which is very hard. Thank God for giving us the best gift. My daughter is a smart child, but she did not show her sharpness at the beginning.
Before the third grade of elementary school, she was either the last one in the class or the second last. But I am not anxious, not to mention that she is the youngest in the class, everyone has different time to develop with .
Every flower will bloom, but the flowering period is different.
I know that many parents in mainland China like to tutor their children, but the only thing I do for my daughter is to find a math cram school to strengthen mathematics, and ignore everything else. I said to my daughter, "Learning this requires you to find answers to the problem through your own efforts." I actually want to tell my children that independent thinking is the foundation of one's own life.
Learn to think about problems by yourself, learn to collect information by yourself, and find the answers to the questions, when I was in the fourth grade of elementary school, my daughter suddenly got her idea and successfully got into a private high school and entered a high-quality class.
(Daughter was 5 years old)
What surprised me was that while I was nervously reviewing and preparing for the college entrance examination, she still had the energy to learn Japanese, passed the highest Japanese level N1, and also served as the president of animation club . And I go to bed before 11 o'clock every day and never stay up late.
In my opinion, middle school should be rich and colorful. We should not only aim at taking the exam and maintain strong desire for knowledge and creativity. This is a good habit that will benefit all our lives.
I have seen many excellent students. They worked very hard in high school and let themselves go when they arrived at college. In fact, what you learn in college is crucial, and it will determine what role you will play in society and what kind of person you will become.
My daughter chose her own dual majors in college, and she liked it very much, so she had a fulfilling and happy life in college.
I know that many parents in Taiwan and mainland China will help their children choose majors based on their own experience and pragmatic judgments. My advice is to respect their children's own ideas and let them have a joyful college life. It would be too uncomfortable if you were forced to learn a major you didn’t like.
(The first time I ate candied haws on Qianmen Street, Beijing)
My 24-year-old daughter has just started learning to draw and she has a good time. Today's society needs diverse and slash-type people. They don't need to do everything to a very in-depth level, but they need to learn something and gain something.
Not long ago, my daughter told me that she would choose to work in the field of environmental protection in the future. My daughter has such a strong sense of social responsibility. As a father, she can only say "good". Although this is not necessarily the most promising career, I support her choice.
is determined to devote myself to and participate in the development of the mainland. My daughter has an idea of becoming a parent earlier, which touched me and was deeply touched.
My daughter has been to mainland China twice, once in junior high school and once in high school. When I was in middle school, I went to Shanghai Fudan University Affiliated Middle School to visit and exchange. After returning, she said to me: "The eloquence of mainland students in speeches is much better than ours, and they study harder than us."
Hangzhou's West Lake and fried shrimp eel noodles left a beautiful impression on her. After she came back, she kept thinking about it. Her natural "foodie" physique is quite like her grandfather.
(shot taken in Zhujiajiao Ancient Town)
In the 1990s, I first came to the mainland, and my first stop at that time was Shanghai. In order to accompany his wife to a Shanghai aviation lamp factory to find lamps, the lamps made in this factory are very famous and durable.
I can’t remember exactly which year I just remember that there was no Pudong Airport in Shanghai at that time, only one Hongqiao Airport . We lived in Hongqiao Hotel, and the East China University opposite was also called Textile University. The magnificent viaduct was still under construction at that time.
What surprised me was the neon lights of Bund . I remember when I was a child, my family went out to go to a restaurant. On the streets of Taichung where the lights were first on, my sister and I screamed happily. My father smiled and said, "The neon lights in Taiwan are not as good as those in Shanghai. There have been neon lights in Shanghai for a long time. It took so long to have it."
is now standing on the Bund, with the evening breeze, watching the reflection of the brilliant and gorgeous neon lights on the river. My father's hearty laughter is still in his ears. If he is still alive, it would be great to have a look at this prosperous scene again.
After my trip to Shanghai, I went to mainland China seven or eight times one after another, and went to cities such as Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shandong. Beijing is worthy of being the thousand-year-old imperial capital. The central axis has a strong architectural culture atmosphere. Beijingers also speak nicely. The Olympic venues are very beautiful, and the only bad thing is traffic jams. The Sudi willows and the three pools reflect the moon in West Lake in Hangzhou are so beautiful, no wonder my daughter lingers.
(I am about to say goodbye to this university where I have taught for more than 20 years)
Every time I come to the mainland, I can feel the rapid progress of the motherland. In contrast, Taiwan has not been built in large cities for a long time, and there are many old buildings. Whether it is the convenience of life or the development of infrastructure, it has long been unable to keep up with the pace of the times.
In 2018, my wife and I went to Qingdao for a trip. We saw a massage chair in the hotel lobby. We wanted to sit on it and experience it, but we needed to scan the code to pay and we could not invest coins. I can only ask the team leader to help with the operation and then give her cash. It is estimated that only Taiwan is using cash now.
I have done some research on this payment method for scanning the code. Maybe you don’t know that for mainland partners, , a payment method that has long been accustomed to, is actually a very special payment method. Such a payment system has never been used elsewhere in the world. China skipped the Western credit card system and directly used electronic payment, which is really amazing.
(As a scholar, I have seen an unstoppable future by carefully studying China's development model)
In addition to travel, I also go deep into the mainland by reading professional books and browsing a lot of online information.
Through professional books, I learned that China's rapid development in the data era has shown a trend of sparks. This is the " Chinese model " brought by Internet technology. , who has studied Western economics for 30 years, my original thinking was broken by China's economic model.
As teacher Zeng Ming wrote in "Smart Business": "This is an epoch-making beginning". We are standing at the starting point of the future, and China's development is unstoppable.
I have watched a lot of documentaries, movies and short videos. In addition to well-made professional works, there are also short videos of ordinary people expressing their daily life. I can feel the flowing state of life.
I have also started to come into contact with self-media since March 2020, and learned from many excellent self-media in mainland China how to make short videos.
(On my left is a Taiwanese friend who brought a family to Chengdu to open a hot pot restaurant in 2006)
In Taiwan, in fact, many people buy things in online stores in mainland China. Even if the arrival time takes one week or even ten days, we are willing to wait because it is cheap and has many options.
My wife is also one of the online shopping fans, especially likes to buy clothes and home accessories. Except for occasional misses, most shopping experiences are very good, and the glasses frames and suitcases you buy are very cost-effective.
A Taiwanese friend in Chengdu once mailed me a wired lapel clip two years ago. In Taiwan, it costs nearly NT$500, but in mainland China, it is only less than 30 yuan. With the shipping fee, it costs less than 50 yuan in total. I have been using it until now.
What I want to say is that in fact, most Taiwanese have seen the progress of the mainland. The reason why some Taiwanese are biased against the mainland is because of their self-enclosure.
The more people who have never been to the mainland, the deeper the prejudice they have. They did not leave that island and did not come to see it. What they heard may be blocked things.
Anyone who is willing to look at it from an open perspective can see the progress of the mainland thousands of miles a day.
I am teaching EMBA at an Asian university in Taiwan. I often encourage my students to have the opportunity to visit the mainland and work in the mainland. Not to mention whether you hate or like it, from the economics GDP, what is Taiwan’s GDP? What is the GDP of the mainland? Judging from the construction of facilities that stimulate vitality, how many are there in Taiwan? How many are there in the mainland? The answer is clear at a glance.
Not long ago, I had a student who went to the incubation center of Xiamen . Several students went to the Kinmen University Research Institute, on the other side of the mountain, the sea on the other side of the world, and the door of opportunity was right in front of you, waiting for you to push it open.
(I often recommend students to read "Evolution", everyone should have the "evolution" thinking and move forward bravely)
Taiwan's economic situation in recent years, and Taiwan's universities have also become increasingly difficult to operate because of insufficient enrollment, so I will slowly fade out of the teaching industry.
16 years ago, a good brother of mine took him to a family and opened his first local hot pot restaurant to Chengdu. He told me that Chengdu is a place that is very suitable for business, and Chengdu people are friendly and generous. No matter what business they do, whether things are successful or not, everyone can happily "play" together.
Last year, another friend also sold his big house in Taipei, gave up his connections that he had accumulated in the trade circle for many years, and came to Chengdu alone to start a business, helping Liangshan fruit farmers sell fruits.
As my friends around me go to the mainland one after another, I yearn for it more and more. I also want to devote myself to the development of the mainland, do my best to help farmers, and build a rural dream that belongs to me.
In fact, the image of Chengdu has been "entered" in my mind for a long time. In addition to studying the business environment in Chengdu, I also investigated the humanities there.
belongs to Sichuan, the "country of Heavenly Mansion". Chengdu not only meets the fashion atmosphere of the city, but also has not as high as other cities. It is my preferred city for development in the mainland.
(According to the new WHO standards, I am still in my prime, and my career can still start a new line)
At present, I am preparing to deal with real estate in Taiwan. If everything goes well, I can settle in the mainland within about three years. Maybe the day when the family relocates is the time for the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to unify. At that time, our family of three can get their ID cards. will be thrilled to think about it.
Some people may think that I am so rational, how can I have such emotional thoughts? What I want to say is that this is not a moment of impulse. The future has come. Every person who knows the current affairs in should see the future of China.
"Young people should have lofty ambitions, ride a horse and step on the flat rivers." hopes that everyone will welcome changes calmly, accept changes bravely, and find a place where they can settle down. May everyone go through thousands of sails and be a young man when they return.
