Following the rumor that TSMC will build a factory in the United States, news of it is also rumored to build an advanced packaging and testing plant in Taiwan, China.
According to the news on Facebook by Xu Yaochang, the TSMC Board of Directors has recently passed the decision to build Zhunan Advanced Packaging and Testing Factory, and the site is Zhunan Science Park, Miaoli County. The packaging and testing plant is expected to have a total investment of approximately NT$300 billion (approximately RMB 71.62 billion). It is planned to operate the first phase of the production area in the middle of next year, and it is estimated that more than 1,000 jobs will be created.
At the same time, Taiwan media reported that the Miaoli County Government recently announced that the establishment of TSMC Zhunan factory has officially started, and will gradually build an advanced packaging and testing factory with a total area of 14.3 hectares on the west side of Zhunan Science Park, with a total area of 14.3 hectares. Submit a copy by the end of this month to apply for a miscellaneous license for the 7.78 hectares of northern factory, and apply for a factory construction license next month. It will be completed as early as mid-next year, and mass production will be carried out in the following year. The 6.53 hectares of southern base is still under planning.
It is worth mentioning that TSMC has long planned for the construction of the packaging and testing plant. In 2012, it spent NT$3.2 billion to buy 14.3 hectares of land in the specific area of Tai Po in Zhunan Town, and finalized the transformation into an advanced packaging and testing plant with high-end technology in 2018 and initiated the environmental impact assessment procedure. After 15 months of review, it passed the environmental impact assessment in September last year.
In the future, TSMC is expected to swallow up part of the packaging and testing market.
